A horrifying new game by FromSoftware called The Duskbloods is coming soon to the Nintendo Switch 2. FromSoftware, the progenitor of the "Soulslike" genre of video game, has made a big splash on the Nintendo Switch 2. Not only did the studio announce that Elden Ring would make its way onto the new gaming console, but it's also bringing a brand-new property that looks to be a spiritual successor to its popular Bloodborne video game.
Nintendo announced that its new console would be the exclusive home for The Duskbloods, a new IP from the studio that made Elden Ring and Dark Souls directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. Details about the game are scant, but it was confirmed to be a multiplayer game and will feature gothic horror elements. The game will be released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. You can check out the first trailer of The Duskbloods down below:
Is The Duskbloods A Sequel To Bloodborne?
Game Has No Direct Connection, But Appears To Be A Spiritual Sequel
One major question is how The Duskbloods is related to Bloodborne, another FromSoftware franchise with very similar gothic horror feels to it. While FromSoftware has not confirmed any connection, it's likely that The Duskbloods is a spiritual sequel with no direct ties. Bloodborne is owned by Sony, with FromSoftware serving as the developer. It's very unlikely that Sony would let a competitor have an exclusive game using their IP, so The Duskbloods was likely created to keep some of the themes and feel of Bloodborne alive while creating a brand-new game.
This wouldn't be the first time that FromSoftware has made a "spiritual sequel" to a game owned by Sony. The Dark Souls franchise started off as a spiritual sequel to Demon's Souls, with the game using much of the same style of gameplay, but with a wholly new world and mythology. One advantage to spiritual successors is that they don't always come with the same console restrictions as their predecessors and they can tell a new kind of story that might not be possible with existing IP.
Our Take: The Duskbloods Looks Delightfully Creepy And We Love It
This New Game Looks Very Different Than Any Other Nintendo-Exclusive Game
While we know next to nothing about The Duskbloods, we certainly can't wait to see more. The new game seemingly takes advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2's new multiplayer capabilities while delivering a very horrifying and adult experience for players. This game feels very unlike anything else we've seen on a Nintendo console, which is what makes The Duskbloods so intriguing. This new console definitely appears to skew to older audiences compared to the Nintendo Switch base, and we can't wait to get into gory battles with friends when The Duskbloods eventually releases.
