This list contains spoilers for Season 3 of Never Have I Ever
The new third season of Never Have I Ever has brought with it even more drama, emotion, and romance for Devi than ever before. Of course, one of the central love stories is still the one that started Devi's entire journey since the pilot: that of Devi and Paxton.
While the two initially seemed to be an odd match, their relationship evolved more and more as the series progressed with many viewers even siding on team Paxton over team Ben. Although the events of the recent season leave the pairing in uncertain waters, many great quotes hint that the two could still be endgame.
"The Computer Thinks You're Exactly In My League."
"Had A Valentine", Season 3 Episode 3
Devi has always been insecure about her status at Sherman Oaks High, especially when compared with her incredibly popular and objectively handsome love interest, Paxton. This insecurity is only amplified tenfold when the two become official and the judgments and jealousies about Devi begin pouring in.
While this quote may not seem to be the most romantic at first glance, it shows that Paxton sees Devi and her insecurities and is willing to put in the effort to work through each one of them. Although he may not have done the right thing with this lie, his heart was in the right place and this line highlights that he sees and cares for Devi.
"He Was Cradling Your Face. Friends Don't Cradle!"
"Hooked Up With My Boyfriend", Season 3 Episode 8
Despite breaking up early on in the season, Devi and Paxton are far from over their feelings for one another, even as they try and move on with others. The two obviously have great chemistry together and have a lot of love for one another, albeit not in the same ionate, all-consuming sense as when they were dating.
This quote from Devi's then-boyfriend, Des, epitomizes this fact, as even a newcomer like him can pick up on the leftover sparks between the pair. While the two appear to have parted ways, there is still something that gravitates them towards one another and - if their history is any indication - this could lead to them finding their way back to each other yet again.
"I Love A Lamp Scarf."
"Hooked Up With My Boyfriend", Season 3 Episode 8
Even though she has a very happening (and at many times, problematic) love life, Devi still finds herself questioning her ability to both love and be loved. Given her grief and the misfortune of previous relationships, this reluctance and fear make solid sense.
However, that doesn't mean they are true, and Paxton helps Devi see that by validating and iring the romantic setup she had created for Des. This quote not only shows Paxton's appreciation for the hopeless romantic in Devi but also shows that the two have a deep-rooted friendship to back up their affection.
"You Make Me Better."
"Cheated", Season 3 Episode 7
Paxton's best friend, Trent, is easily one of the funniest characters on Never Have I Ever, but this season also posits him as one of the series' most earnest and developed characters, especially when it comes to his relationship with Eleanor which surprisingly turns out to be really great.
While this quote is one they both say to each other, it helps further the Paxton and Devi love agenda as it proves that an ideal, healthy relationship is one where both people push each other to be better. This is exactly what Devi and Paxton did, as Paxton is shown to realize after hearing his best friend say the line.
"I Only Want To Do What You're Comfortable With."
"Been Slut-Shamed", Season 3 Episode 1
Among some of the most underrated moments in season 1 of the show is Devi's fantasy about Paxton, the lover of her dreams who Devi is determined to get with. Of course, the reality of understanding her feelings and being ready to have sex with him are much more complicated than she thought two seasons ago.
While this line is quite literally Paxton doing the bare minimum, it still shows that when it comes to Devi he's not just the sex-crazed hot guy everyone makes him out to be. He respects her boundaries and wants to make sure she always feels safe and comfortable and satisfied, even if means watching TikToks together and just enjoying each other's company.
"First Of All, YOU're MY Smoke Show Girlfriend."
"Had A Valentine", Season 3 Episode 3
Paxton has not had the best history of making Devi feel seen and special, especially with his hot-and-cold, only being together in secret, behavior near the end of season 2. However, he has grown and changed since then, especially since going public about their relationship.
This line from Paxton proves that he finds Devi just as attractive as she finds him, and reassures her that he considers himself lucky to be with her in the same sense that she feels about him. With both Devi and Paxton growing and learning to love one another in more aspects than before, lines like this further prove why they are still in the running for endgame status.
"I Don't Think We Can Have A Real Relationship Until You Like Yourself."
"Had A Valentine", Season 3 Episode 3
Paxton and Devi's interactions have spawned some of the best quotes from prior seasons, and season 3 is no exception, as proven by this line of Paxton's. While it's no news for viewers that Devi still has many issues to work through it was important to have Paxton recognize the limitations of their relationship and how Devi needs to refocus on herself and her struggles before they can make things work.
Plus, this quote really showcases that they're not wrong for one another - they just need some time. Given all of Devi's growth between this moment and the season finale, this quote not only highlights how mature and worthwhile a healthy relationship between the two could be but also hints at the two getting another shot later on.
"Devi, Why Isn't Your Stomach In Knots?"
"Lived The Dream", Season 3 Episode 10
Perhaps the greatest indication of Devi's character development is this quote, stated by John McEnroe as a part of the show's narration.
When Paxton dedicates his high school speech to Devi, she doesn't react in the same giddy way she usually has when it comes to the swimmer. Instead, she sits in the audience calmly and appreciates his words and recognition. This speaks volumes about the evolution of Devi and Paxton's relationship as she takes him off his old pedestal and finds in him some solace, peace, and friendship. Trading the intense butterflies for this calm emphasizes the maturing and detoxifying of their relationship, earning them the right to be endgame.
"You Kind Of Got Me Through The Death Of My Dad... By Being A Dream."
"Lived The Dream", Season 3 Episode 10
While Devi and Paxton have become one of the best duos on the show, their dynamic started out as the uncool girl infatuated with the popular jock everyone wanted. Albeit not the best foundation of a relationship, their circumstances proved to be exactly what the two needed to kick off what would turn into a transformative affair for both of them.
Devi credits Paxton and all of their overwhelming and distracting rollercoaster adventures as being the thing that really helped her get through the difficult period after her father's death. Paxton will thus always be important and memorable to Devi, hopefully even in the final season despite Paxton being in Arizona.
"But Then Someone Showed Me How To Push Myself."
"Lived The Dream", Season 3 Episode 10
Paxton may have been the dream that Devi always needed to get through her reality, but Devi also proves to be just the person Paxton needed to find purpose and discover himself.
As he mentioned in his grad speech, Devi is the one who showed him that he is so much more than what everyone made him out to be; he is someone kind and smart and capable of hard work - all things he didn't know before meeting her. While Devi may have always wanted Paxton, he subconsciously always needed her, and this reciprocal dynamic of trust, , and love is exactly why the two may still be endgame.
