The 2020 Netflix Original hit series North CarolinaOuter Banks is a show riddled with societal and moral dilemmas that make it a perfect candidate to assign D&D moral alignments. Here are the D&D alignments for the main characters of Outer Banks.

John B - Lawful Good

John B is the main character of the series audiences know and love so well. His intentions with Sarah are pure, he’s gracious with his friends, and his determination to clear his name and avenge his father are what makes him Lawful Good of the D&D moral alignments. His motives are societally good and morally good, which are key characteristics of a Lawful Good character.

Kiara - Lawful Neutral

A Lawful Neutral character doesn't care what society thinks and lives by the beat of their own drum. In other words, this is Kiara. Kiara is the glue of the group that holds everyone together, and exactly why she makes a perfect Lawful Neutral character. Although she’s a Kook, she doesn’t care to be one; she lives by the code of the Pogues. She always states Pogues don’t get with other Pogues and she is utterly loyal to John B, Pope, and JJ.

Pope - Chaotic Good

Pope is the responsible one of the group, one that keeps order and reminds others what’s at stake. But he’s also one to do what it takes when the time comes. These are the exact descriptions of a Chaotic Good character.

Throughout the show, he reminds his friends what’s at stake in his universe - his scholarship interview. But he doesn’t hesitate to jeopardize that interview in order to help John B and the rest of his Pogue gang. He even helped sink Topper’s boat with encouragement from JJ. No matter what, Pope came to help, even if it didn’t match society’s standards.

JJ - Chaotic Good

Chaotic Good characters do what they must for the greater good and sometimes that means disobeying the law - which is exactly what JJ does in Outer Banks. JJ is the rebel of the group: he steals Barry’s money, convinces Pope to sink a boat, and encourages other minor crimes throughout the season.

He even possibly never pays back the police department. But it's all for John B and his friends. He may not do the right thing all the time, but his intentions are pure.

Ward Cameron - Chaotic Evil

Ward Cameron is no doubt the ultimate antagonist of the show and that’s exactly what makes him Chaotic Evil. His greed turns him into an ugly character, one obsessed with money so much that he will do anything, and kill anyone, to get it. There’s no redemption or grace in this character, and that’s why he’s so severely on the negative side of the alignment.

Sarah Cameron - Lawful Good

In a world full of Kooks, Sarah Cameron is the best out of all of them. She recognizes the flaws in her societal system but does what she can to still respect it. Not only that but when her world comes crashing down, she tries so hard to do the right thing by John B and his friends. She is the perfect example of Lawful Good.

Rafe - Neutral Evil

Much like Ward, Rafe is also on the ethically corrupt end of the spectrum. However, Rafe is classified as Neutral. He follows the rules of society that benefits himself and will jeopardize his family in order to establish order in his life.

But because of his actions throughout the season, such as him shooting Sheriff Peterkin and stealing money from his dad, this declares him evil as well.

Topper - Neutral Evil

Topper cares about one thing and one thing only - Sarah Cameron. He will do what it takes to get her attention. This alone makes him a perfect example of a Neutral Evil character. Neutral Evil characters care about their own desires and they’ll do anything to satisfy them. A Neutral Evil character will also hurt others to further their agenda, which is what he does to John B and the rest of the Pogues.

Sheriff Peterkin - Lawful Good

Just like Sarah Cameron, Sheriff Peterkin is undoubtedly Lawful Good. As the sheriff of the town, she spends the entire season trying to discover John Rutledge’s killer, and ultimately, she does! She respects the laws of society by being a sheriff and she recognizes the ones who are innocent and the ones who are guilty.

Barry - Lawful Evil

As a businessman of a pawn shop and his own drug dealing business, Barry cares about upholding his ventures but also doesn’t care about getting dirty while doing it. He enforces his own version of control and order among the rest of the characters of the show. He believes what he is doing is right, and exactly why he is Lawful Evil.
