Netflix’s Élite released the season three trailer on March 3rd. Since then, fans have been given a glimpse into the new season through BTS interviews from their favorite characters. They’ve already warned us to “grab our tissues” and expect the unexpected.
One thing we can expect, though, is that the writers will do everything in their power to spice up our favorite characters' storylines and dramatize them even more. We honestly cannot wait for the twists and turns they will encounter in this new season, but, while we wait, here are ten things you'll need to know about your favorite characters ahead of Élite's third season.
Polo
The trailer has already shown us that Polo is Élite’s central character going into season three. He has been charged with murder, become the outcast of the group, and he's now been murdered himself. Though we’re not excusing his actions, it is important to look at the pressures this character faced that pushed him to kill Marina.
In season one, Polo is often made fun of and ridiculed for having a stutter, as well as being weak and easily manipulated by Carla. Polo even shared his sadness over never being able to amount to his mother's expectations in the episode “Love is a Drug." By the end of season one, anyone could see that Polo was merely a ticking time bomb. While there’s so much we can say about Polo, audiences should know that he is ultimately the by-product of the pressures of his environment.
Carla
In the beginning, Carla was seen by the audience as just an adventurous rich young woman. But by the end of season one and throughout season two, Carla showcased her strengths not only as a manipulator but as a leader. She took on the responsibility of covering Polo, Christian, and herself for Marina’s Murder. She convinced us in the season two that she would do whatever it took to preserve her elite ecosystem. In preparing for the third season, fans should be reminded that Carla is fiercely loyal and a force to be reckoned with.
Cayetana
Cayetana has become the embodiment of the phrase “fake it till you make it." She faked her social stature and even faked a charitable organization; the only thing that is not fake in her life are her conditions at home. In season two's episode "66 Hours," Cayetana invites Polo to her house where we first meet her working mother and ill grandfather. For the first time, we get to see that she fakes it not only to try and elevate her lifestyle, but also that of her family’s. What you need to know about Cayetana is that although her actions have been inexcusable, and, like Carla, Cayetana will also do what it takes to infiltrate the elites.
Nadia & Omar
Nadia and Omar have both made significant changes in their personal relationships and friendships over the seasons. In season two, they both explore life outside of their traditional worlds and take their romantic relationships to the next level. The difference between them is the lines they are willing to cross to preserve their family values. Omar has made it clear that a life with Ander is what he wants, which has not only disappointed his parents but estranged him from them.
Nadia, on the other hand, is hellbent on not disappointing her parents. This is mainly one of the main reasons why we see her go back and forth between her friendships and relationship with Guzman. In this new season, will the two siblings perhaps learn a thing or two from each other or just follow their own paths? Only time will tell.
Ander
Ander is a character whose loyalties have constantly being put to the test. Throughout the seasons, he has had difficulty asserting his position within his friendships and creating boundaries for himself. In the first season, he struggled to stay loyal to his father's dream of him becoming a tennis player. This overwhelmed him so much to the point where he resorted to drugs in order to cope.
In the second season, he is once again overwhelmed by the revelation that Polo Killed Marina, his best friend's sister. He is put into an impossible situation which puts a strain on his relationship with both Guzman and Omar. In the third season, we hope that Ander addresses the root cause of his struggles and acts in his best interest.
Rebeca & Valerio
Rebeca and Valerio are also trying to adapt to the egregious ecosystem of the elites. Rebeca is intelligent, confident, and determined, but she doesn’t necessarily have the tools to use that for her advantage at Las Encinas. She struggles to solidify her value in the lives of the people around her because she is part of her mother's drug syndicate.
Valerio, on the other hand, has not been shy about his drug use, and, in fact, uses it to cope with his complicated relationship with Lu. What you need to know is that these storylines may unite Rebeca and Valerio in the third season as seen in the trailer, which we as the audience will have to watch out for.
Lucrecia
In the show, La Beya Reina Lucrecia has often been the bully and displayed no shame in looking down on others. However, her relationships allow us to see a different side to her—the side of a girl who just wants to be loved. In the first season, we see this in her desperate pursuit of Guzman in which she is unsuccessful.
However, when Valerio is introduced in season two, we see this side of her reignite. What audiences need to realize is that Valerio seems to be able to humble her, which shows that she can be kind and empathetic when she wants to be.
Guzman
Guzman Nunier initially came off as a control freak who liked to keep everyone in line. At first, audiences were apprehensive of his behavior, but, after finding out that he is actually adopted and had a different start to life, a deeper look into this character was needed.
In the season one episode “Saturday Night,” we find out that Guzman’s biological parents were drug addicts who were killed by their addiction. This is why he feels such a strong responsibility to protect the ones around him; he realizes how unfortunate his life could have been had he not been adopted. He sees it upon himself to preserve the sanctity of the elitism he is so fortunate to be in, hence why he is against anything which may threaten this system.
Nano
Nano is one of Élite’s most problematic characters. Just like Samuel, trouble seems to also follow him. However, unlike Samuel, Nano doesn’t seem to be able to stick around much. When we first meet him in season one, he had just come back from jail, and, not long after being released from jail in season two, he disappears leaving everything behind. Nano doesn’t seem to be a very good role model for Samu, and therefore proves to be an unreliable character. It is essential for audiences to be aware that, although his return is awaited in season three, he may once more leave.
Samuel
As a character, Samuel is always looking out for others. One of the most important things to know about him is that he often puts the lives of others above his. While it makes him a good and reliable friend, it does always get him in trouble. His inability to ‘mind his own business’ is his greatest strength and also his greatest downfall.
Throughout the series, Samu has been exposed to many issues, most of which don’t involve him directly, but the people around him. Even though he is seen somewhat as a heroic figure, you can be assured that, wherever trouble is, Samuel is too. Whether or not that’s a positive thing, you will need to decide for yourself in season three.
