18 episodes of NCIS: Origins also incorporated many characters the audience could recognize from the original CBS police procedural TV show. They also referenced events from Gibbs' life that were previously made canon. Thankfully, that won't change in season 2.

When a fan asked the NCIS franchise's canon. The executive producer teased:

"We always have our eye on canon. We have a big huge timeline in the writers' room, and we're really strict about sticking to it. The canon matters to us, and we never want to ignore it. So, all the things that we're seeing in canon, we will address one way or another."

What Gina Lucita Monreal's Comments Mean For NCIS: Origins Season 2

More Familiar Faces Could Show Up In Season 2

From Lara Macy and Diane Sterling to Leroy Jethro Gibbs himself, NCIS: Origins season 1 included various characters from the original NCIS show. Given that the prequel chronicles the early years of Gibbs' career, the cameos make sense. Now, with the co-showrunner's tease in mind, it seems like season 2 will also introduce some recognizable names. As TVLine pointed out, the Fed 5 (the LEOs quintet from NCIS: New Orleans' backdoor pilot in 2014, aka Gibbs, Mike Franks, Dwayne Pride, Felix Betts, and Dan McLane) is likely coming.

NCIS: Origins will return with its second season in the fall of 2025, airing new episodes on Tuesdays at 9 pm ET, following NCIS season 23 and preceding NCIS: Sydney season 3.

NCIS: Origins isn't immune to plot holes, though, meaning that the writers could still choose to alter some moments that NCIS previously mentioned. However, according to Monreal, the minds behind the prequel series are trying their very best to honor the original show. They are taking many precautions to ensure their success. So, fans can look forward to more canon events when NCIS: Origins season 2 premieres.

Our Take On NCIS: Origins Season 2 Incorporating More Canon Gibbs Moments

What's To Come?

As many would expect, NCIS: Origins season 2 will continue covering Gibbs' origin story and his other colleagues' lives. Given Diane's introduction, fans might see Gibbs' relationship with his future wife develop in future episodes. However, season 2 should also feature moments that fans aren't aware of. For example, Cecilia "Lala" Dominguez is a completely new character whose identity wasn't known until the prequel series aired, and her intriguing will-they/won't-they romance with Gibbs must continue. So, NCIS: Origins season 2 has to explore canon events (as Monreal said), while also incorporating new ones to surprise viewers.
