Warning! Spoilers ahead for Hunters Guild: Red Hood chapter 8 ahead!

How Sasuke leverages the Cursed Seal of Heaven in Naruto mirrors the way in which Debonair Diamond from the new manga Hunters Guild: Red Hood makes use of an unfortunate hex cast upon her.

In his ongoing quest for immortality, Naruto's villain Orochimaru originally branded Sasuke in an effort to prepare the boy's body to serve as his next vessel since the cursed seal corrodes the bearer's mind. While a curse, the seal still provides Sasuke with incredible powers, which the advantageous shinobi makes sure to employ. The second level of the seal is what truly empowers Sasuke, however. Not only does he undergo a physical transformation that grants him the gift of flight, but he can replace any lost limbs in this form with snakes, which is a defining characteristic of the brand's creator, Orochimaru.

In Hunters Guild: Red Hood, a nameless witch casts a hex on the guild's hot-blooded instructor Debonair Diamond, causing her body to naturally emit so much heat that she scorches everything around her. Of course, Debonair wouldn't be able to be in close proximity with anyone else for fear of burning them alive, but after a rather rigorous training regime, she actually both gains control of her curse, keeping her body at a balmy 120 degrees Fahrenheit that could cook an egg in her palm if she ever got overly excited. Called Furnace Harness, activation of her hex involves Debonair relinquishing control of the furnace within her and blasting everything around her, though she's unable to control who or what her attack hits.

The first place readers see Furnace Harness in Hunters Guild is actually perfect. She, along with the hero Velou and other engers wanting to the series' eponymous guild, are aboard Debonair's Ironworks vessel on a three-month voyage across the sea during which everyone undergoes extensive training that culminates in an exam that, should they , allows them to leave Ironworks and visit the guild. Failures are forced to take the three-month journey back while enduring even more training. Right before the exam begins, the ship is attacked by a Tidal Manta Ray. As the defenders are on the ocean, Debonair can release the full brunt of her attack without holding back, as the creature is far enough at sea so that only the ocean will be impacted by her heat. Debonair first flies over, possibly as a result of the heat radiating from her charged body, and then releases a concentrated jab of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit from her right arm called Billet Punch.

Unlike Debonair's hex in Hunters Guild: Red Hood, Naruto's Sasuke could actually avoid activating his brand to keep his mind from corroding. However, it's the allure of obtaining incredible new powers that comes as a result of succumbing to the Cursed Seal of Heaven. As Sasuke wants nothing more than to avenge the death of his family and people by overcoming his brother Itachi, Sasuke gives in. Conversely, Debonair's hex originally didn't require activation as her body always emitted incredible amounts of heat. In other words, there wasn't any positive side to her curse. She created one herself. To further understand Debonair's strength and resolve, another powerful character from the manga known as Grimm who recruited Velou earlier on is also afflicted by her own curse that causes her to revert to a child. She has been unable to use her hex to her advantage. Grimm has found a way to return to her adult form, however, though only for a short period. And this is a character who seems to have access to more than 600 weapons in a regular-sized suitcase.
