It’s been nearly two years since Boruto’s last episode aired for the annual anime, bringing a grinding halt to what was gearing up to be the next major plot point in the manga. This cliffhanger left many fans at a loss for when the show would continue and how much the anime would adapt when it eventually came back.

In the midst of a busy season, Pierrot would subtly notify Boruto fans on the anime’s return by updating the franchise’s webpage to conclude that a second part had been confirmed. Although this series may not have received worldwide acclaim like its predecessor, Naruto, viewers have begun to warm up to this new age story as it figures out its identity and sets itself apart with its own narrative, characters, and battle prowess. Now faced with a brighter future, Boruto’s animators are already working hard and sharing their excitement for the anime’s comeback.

One of the most exciting things to come from Boruto’s return is how the grown-up characters are going to appear in the anime. After months of only seeing them in stills from the manga, timeskip Boruto and Sarada are going to look stunning when brought back in a new season. Key animator and director Masayuki Kouda is already testing out how the blonde prodigy may look when he’s finally adapted back into the anime.

In this draft, Boruto is without his headband, showing that the sides of his head have been shaved down underneath his usual unruly blonde hair. This moment appears to be Kouda’s warmup of when the protagonist showed up in the fight against the Divine Trees after Konohamaru failed to successfully trick Matsuri in chapter #21 of Two Blue Vortex.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has given Sarada the development she deserves, evolving past fan criticism and becoming one of the best characters in Naruto.

Another one of Boruto’s animators has also been sharing some of his drawings from Two Blue Vortex, recreating a scene where Matsuri challenges Gaara and another where he animates Sarada activating her Mangekyo Sharingan. With the production team clearly excited for the next installment, it does raise the question of just how much of part two is Pierrot able to bring into the next season?

Could The Animator's Art Be Teasing at What the Anime Plans on Adapting?

Boruto Fans May Get to See Parts of Two Blue Vortex in the Season

The studio has only just started hinting at Boruto’s return, so it’s way too soon to say just how much fans will see of the second installment to the successor’s story. Pierrot seems to be on track for switching gears on its current running anime to follow a more seasonal model instead of returning to annual, in light of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. The unofficial break or hiatus for Boruto not only gave the source material more time to get ahead but this would also allow the production team some leeway to storyboard and deliver on a well-animated product.

There are still portions of Naruto Next Generations that need to be adapted from the manga, but afterwards, perhaps in the very same season, fans may get to see the first look at Two Blue Vortex. The anime still has yet to finish the Code arc in its entirety, but it could also easily tie in the Prophecy arc to pad out a dramatic and lengthy season. Since Kawaki and Boruto are the only of the cast to have been actually animated in the very beginning and end of the anime, it would be incredibly interesting to see, toward the end of Boruto's comeback season, more of the other characters grown up and what they are doing post timeskip as a nod to Two Blue Vortex's debut.
