Since My Hero Ultra Rumble is throwing its hat into the battle royale frenzy among many other titles, there’s a lot that the game has to do in order to compete in such a saturated genre. The next game in the series was announced back in January 2022 and since then, gameplay footage has been released showcasing some of the title's visuals and mechanics. As time goes on, fans can only expect to hear more news and see more trailers released for the game.
While this is the first time that the My Hero franchise has been a battle royale title, this isn’t its first time on consoles. Following the fighting game My Hero One's Justice 2, the mobile game My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero was also a hit with players. With both of these titles being a success among fans, it's only expected that there's a high expectation when it comes to Ultra Rumble.
For starters, since Ultra Rumble is a game featured around the cast of the manga/show, the roster should be extensive to avoid repetition among characters. As was shown in the gameplay trailer, each hero and villain have their own movesets and abilities based on their particular quirks. However, more nuances and variation could keep a game like this on its feet, so making sure that a large number of different characters are playable could go a long way toward relieving repetition and introducing variety.
My Hero Academia Ultra Rumble Needs To Appeal To Its Fans
Another aspect that should be taken into consideration is the game’s map itself. As it’s shown in the My Hero Ultra Rumble gameplay trailer, one of the locations is the USJ Training Facility, which was featured in the show. Having more iconic locations such as this one could immerse fans in the gameplay as if they were playing out a scene that takes place in the series.
In regards to the game having customization options for the heroes and villains, giving fans the option to equip different outfits and skins for their favorite characters could give the game a great deal more personality than it might have otherwise, and help keep the experience lively over time. This feature was available in My Hero One's Justice 2, so it would be disappointing not to see it return in the battle royale. These cosmetic items could range from accessories to the different outfits that the characters wear in the show.
Since the manga-turned-battle royale My Hero Ultra Rumble has big shoes to fill, in order for it to truly beat the many other games currently vying for supremacy within its genre, it needs to not only capture the interest of fans, but also introduce new people to the series as well. High-action gameplay that captures the intense moments in the show is crucial to grab player interest early, as variety in gameplay and rewards will be over the long haul. Luckily, My Hero Ultra Rumble will have a closed beta test in the future where players can give their honest to improve the title, and get a taste of what it might ultimately turn out to be.
