The Adult Swim series My Adventures with Superman has proven to be a welcome antidote to the dark, serious, versions of Superman fans have seen on screen. That wholesome storytelling is also present in the comic series that is closely tied to the show. In DC's November previews, the final issue of the My Adventures with Superman tie-in comic shines a light on Amanda Waller's machinations, providing a new context for the show's second season.

Written by showrunner Josie Campbell with art by Pablo M. Collar (Sword of Azrael), My Adventures with Superman doesn't tell non-canon stories, or adapt the show — it tells an exciting, original story in the same youthful, joyous tone that won fans' hearts. Even better: the six-issue series, which ends this November, is set between the first two seasons of the show.

The My Adventures with Superman Comic Picks Up Where Season 1 Left Off

Superman, Amazo, Task Force X, and Team 7 Are a Hardcore Matchup

The solicitation promises a massive showdown between unfathomably powerful characters. Amazo is an android that can mimic the powers of superhumans, in this series created by Amanda Waller and S.T.A.R. Labs. It's usually a dire threat, as it currently is in the pages of the current Absolute Power event in the main DC Universe, but in this issue, it will be fighting alongside Superman. Task Force X is an underground government group created by Waller and Lois Lane's father, General Sam Lane, and is more or less the Suicide Squad. Team 7 is a Wildstorm squad of military specialists given experimental powers.

One of the great things about My Adventures with Superman is that it's made Superman a very relatable superhero.

In fact, this Superman might be one of the weakest people in the fight. In My Adventures with Superman, this young Superman is still developing his various powers. As he told Supergirl in season 2, "Whenever I need to protect someone I care about, I get stronger." Fans have seen him develop X-ray vision and an ability to shoot lightning from his eyes so far. Given that this version of Amazo is a sympathetic, sentient armor, Superman may develop even more powers during the fight to protect it from a government that wants to destroy the life they created.

This Canon My Adventures with Superman Comic Is a Must-Read

Variant Cover by Tokitokoro

My Adventures with Superman 6 Tokitokoro Variant Cover: Clark Kent fumbles papers in front of an image of Superman.

One of the great things about My Adventures with Superman is that it's made Superman a very relatable superhero. He's young, he's struggling, and he's learning. He doesn't quite have "adulting" down yet, despite really needing to be an adult, both as Superman and as Clark Kent. While Batman is usually thought of as the DCU's detective, Clark, alongside Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, does a lot of investigation in his role as a journalist, making him as important as his super alter ego. While season 3 is in production, fans should catch up on My Adventures with Superman through this officially canon series.

My Adventures with Superman #6 is available November 6th, 2024 from DC Comics.
