Ahead of its big release, ScreenRant can exclusively reveal two cards from Magic: The Gathering's Final Fantasy-themed set. Later this summer, Magic: The Gathering will release a new set based around the entirety of the Final Fantasy franchise. Characters, spells, locations, and moments from all the Final Fantasy games will be represented in the new set, celebrating one of the seminal video game franchises of all time.
Ahead of the new set's release on June 13, ScreenRant can now show two of the cards that will appear in the new set: A Promise Fulfilled - Light Up The Stage and Barnabas Tharmr - Kraum's, and Ludevic's Opus. A Promise Fulfilled comes from Final Fantasy 8 and depicts Squall and Rinoa about to embrace, while Barnabas Thramr showcases one of the main antagonists from Final Fantasy 16. Both cards appear in their Through The Ages art style, with art pulled directly from the video game series. Check them out below.
New Final Fantasy Cards Bring Back Classic Cards In New Forms
Both Cards Are Reprints, But Feature Final Fantasy Characters And Artwork
Both of the revealed cards are technically reprints. Light Up The Stage first appeared in Ravnica: Allegiance way back in 2019, while Kraum's, Ludevic's Opus first appeared in the Commander 2016 set. A Promise Fulfilled - Light Up The Stage is a Sorcery card that allows players to exile the top two cards of their library with the option to play those cards through the end of their turn.
It has the Spectacle keyword, which means that players can cast it for just a single Red mana if an opponent has lost life that turn. The card is a useful way of potentially getting extra cards into play on a turn, provided players have the mana to cast the sorcery and still play whatever cards get exiled.

You Won't Have To Like FF13 To Want This Magic: The Gathering Card
Final Fantasy 13 is one of the most maligned games from the series, but even the game's biggest critics will want this FF13 Magic: The Gathering card.
Meanwhile, Barnabas Tharmr - Kraum's, Ludevic's Opus is a Legendary Zombie Horror creature card with both Flying and Haste. Barnabus is also a great Commander card as it has the Partner keyword. This means that it can be used as one of two Commanders in a deck, provided that the other also has a Partner keyword. In addition to the card's other abilities, it also has a card draw effect that activates after an opponent plays their second or more spell on their turn.
Final Fantasy's Magic Crossover Should Be Explosive
Both of these new cards are great for the Commander format, but players should be excited to see the whole set as it debuts over the next few months. Not only will the set bring in a new IP to Magic: The Gathering's Universe Beyond sets, we'll also see beloved characters and moments from one of the most popular video game franchises of all time appear on Magic cards for the very first time.
If these few short weeks on June 13.
