After going hands-on with dark riffs on superheroes like Homelander and fantasy icons like Conan the Barbarian, but the latest addition to the game brings a more futuristic shine to the title.
The T-1000, the liquid metal killing machine at the heart of James Cameron's iconic Terminator 2: Judgment Day, fits neatly into the fantastic fighting game. Despite boasting advanced technology at his very core, the T-1000 is more dangerous for the ways it mimics other fighters and utilizes firearms to keep opponents on their toes. During a hands-on preview event at Warner Bros. Games in Burbank, California, ScreenRant got the chance to see first-hand how well the T-1000 Terminator adapts to Mortal Kombat 1.

The T-1000 Is A Surprisingly Adaptable Fighter In Mortal Kombat 1
The T-1000 is a surprisingly versatile fighter in Mortal Kombat 1, with a range of combative options that make him appropriately adaptive to any situation. The T-1000 mixes a number of different combat approaches, with a slew of easy-ranged attacks that compliment his abilities to dodge out of the line of fire. One of the T-1000's core combos, "Ballistic Approach," sees him simply pull out a gun and fire into his opponent. It's an effective means of stunting any momentum from your opponent, with a few well-placed shots even capable of disrupting a Fatal Blow.

All of this amplifies the T-1000's surprising ability to control the stage. The "Superfluid Matter" move allows the T-1000 to morph from a humanoid body into a blob of liquid metal. On top of serving as an easy way to maneuver around the stage and alter his typical hit box, the T-1000 has multiple attacks it can spring back to natural form with. This doesn't leave the T-1000 without options in close-combat, with "Accute Angle Hooks" transforms the T-1000's arms into hooks. The T-1000 is extremely adaptable as a character, even mimicking other character attacks in a clever touch.

The T-1000 Is A Fitting Recreation Of The Character For Mortal Kombat 1
As with the other guest characters in Mortal Kombat 1's roster, the T-1000 feels like a faithful recreation of what makes the original character so enduring in pop culture. In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Robert Patrick's T-1000 stood out from the iconic previous iteration of the Terminator by being composed of a liquid metal substance that allows it to shapeshift and undo most physical damage it suffers. The unflinching machine and his blunt pursuit of John Connor made him a pop culture touchstone, and Mortal Kombat 1 has a lot of fun replicating many of those visual beats against the backdrop of the Mortal Kombat characters.
The T-1000's disionate but threatening assessment in each pre-fight banter makes him a fun contrast to the more boisterous figures from the game's classic roster. It's fitting for the character, and works well against the bigger personalities of other recent guest characters like Ghostface and Peacemaker. The T-1000's attacks and taunts are blends of his movie counterpart's most famous kills, with his Fatality incorporating various elements into a singular encapsulation of his combative style. Even getting injured as the T-1000 comes with some neat touches, such as his liquid metal form revealing itself during X-Ray blows or fatalities.
The Final Impression On The T-1000
T-1000 Is One Of Mortal Kombat's Best DLC Characters
In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the T-1000 is an ever-adaptable threat that is able to morph to fit the situation (and the target). His Mortal Kombat 1 rendition recreates that in a very engaging way, producing a character who is easily able to shift from ranged to close-quarters combat with relative ease. That's what makes the T-1000 such a fun character to play, as his power-set gives players plenty of options to utilize. T-1000 even has some creative skills in the air.
The hands-on preview proved the T-1000 is just all-round fun. The natural versatility is a great attribute for the T-1000, making him a great character to experiment with, adapting his different styles of attack into unexpected combos. It's an ideal recreation of the iconic James Cameron creation, slotting neatly into the Mortal Kombat universe with a demeaning finger wag and some brutal beatdowns. The T-1000 is a fitting figure to the rest of the Kombat Pack 2 and a great addition to the Mortal Kombat 1 roster.
The T-1000 Terminator will be available on March 25, and those with early access will be able to play as T-1000 from March 18.
