It's been a little over a month since Monster Hunter Wilds' release, but Capcom doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Wilds' Title Update 1 was released on April 3rd, and with it comes a host of exciting new features, monsters, cosmetics, and fixes for the successful new entry into the Monster Hunter series. The delightful 1.010 update brings a little bit of everything to the hit game and is sure to entice every type of player — fashion hunters and speedrunners alike — to jump back in.

While everything being added to Wilds in TU 1 has its place, some changes and additions are more exciting than others. With major PC performance fixes, returning monsters, and a new gathering hub, there's a lot to engage with in Monster Hunter Wilds. The update achieves a dual service too, as it sheds light on what Wilds' continued development will look like, at least, until the inevitable game-altering expansion. As Title Update 1 hits Wilds, it's clearer than ever that its future is promising.

10 Alma Gets A New Look

New Outfits And Glasses Are The First Of Many For Wilds' Fan-Favorite Handler

A tried and true cosmetic option, handler customization, is making its way into Monster Hunter Wilds. Based on the significant number of outfits for World's own, less well-received handler, it only makes sense that Alma's outfit journey began quite early. Players will be receiving her first outfit, which was worn during the cliffs section of the LR story, for free. Coming along with her free addition is a separately sold costume based on World's unnamed handler, which may bring back bad memories for some.

Monster Hunter Wilds Still Hasn't Acknowledged Its Biggest Missed Opportunity

Monster Hunter Wilds already has plenty of unique mechanics at its disposal, but there's one that feels like it was entirely abandoned on release.

What's more, Capcom has set itself up for an even wider breadth of handler cosmetics. Alma's glasses will be receiving their own customization options, with the first changing her spectacles to a snazzier, more modern look. It's no surprise to see handler customization in Wilds, but, with Alma's strong reception, I imagine that Capcom will be releasing Alma outfits with an unforeseen priority.

9 More Expression With Pop-Up Tents Additions

Both Paid & Free

Continuing the cosmetic trend, Pop-Up tents will also be receiving some love in Title Update 1. While Pop-Up tents occupy a strange, almost niche place within Wilds, more options are always better. As someone who spent some time decorating my assortment of tents, the options have, thus far, felt rather limited in the grand scheme of things. Maybe the system will see more of an overhaul later down the line, but until then, the new offerings are properly eye-catching.

Unfortunately, besides paid DLC, Capcom is still ignoring Wilds' best customization opportunity thanks to the lack of Seikret options.

With the release of Title Update 1, the unusually robust Cosmetic DLC Pack 1 has become available for purchase. Included in the assortment of items is an over-the-top, interactive beanbag chair, which certainly stands out among the more tame offerings provided in Wilds' initial release. For players not willing to splurge on a cosmetic pack, free tent decorations, including a cherry blossom tree, will be coming with Wilds' first festival event, the Blossomdance, which is set to be released on April 22nd.

8 The Story Continues With New Quests

Zoh Shia Has More To Say

With the addition of Zoh Shia (found much further down the list), Wilds will see the continuation of its narrative. While Wilds' story was, in some ways, shocking to fans who have come to expect almost nothing in the narrative department, I personally believe that the added effort paid off for both Wilds and the inevitable continuation of the franchise.

A new bar has been set for a Monster Hunter story, which will likely permanently impact the stories yet to come. Much of that weight falls on Wilds' comparatively excellent characters, but the LR story did have a few twists and turns that kept me engaged. Perhaps the biggest hook was Zoh Shia, a civilization-ending threat that brought the best cutscene I've ever experienced in a Monster Hunter title. Zoh Shia is still shrouded in mystery, and I'm excited to see how exactly it re-enters the fray.

7 Using Facilities Is Smoother With Better Dialogue Reaction Times

Speeding Up The Dirty Work

While the extent of this change has been left quite vague, the response time for NPC dialogue has been improved. In other words, the time between talking to an NPC and actually being able to interact with their corresponding facility is quicker. Monster Hunter splits its facilities, such as the quest board, smithy, shops, and pop-up tent management, across a wide swath of NPCs. Many of these facilities are essential, with Wilds often requiring the player to bounce to and fro. As such, any streamlining done to this dance is a solid change.

I've Changed My Mind, Monster Hunter Wilds Not Having Elder Dragons Makes It Better

Initially, Monster Hunter Wilds' lack of elder dragons stood out as a major disappointment, but after playing Wilds further, the cut was worth it.

Though it may feel like a nitpick, improving the flow of Monster Hunter Wilds' non-hunt gameplay is always an appreciated effort. Saving a few seconds may not, at first, feel particularly meaningful, but stack those seconds up over a few hundred hours of game time, and the result speaks for itself. Wilds did a fantastic job with its NPCs, but sometimes I just want to a quest, buy a trap, or craft a weapon without a fuss.

6 Camera Changes Make Some Hunts Less Frustrating

Finally, Gore Magala Will Be Properly Huntable

Gore Magala is undoubtedly a fan-favorite hunt. Unfortunately, in Monster Hunter Wilds, Gore Magala brings some unintended frustrations with it. Perhaps due to its strict placement within the Iceshard Cliffs, which has an abundance of claustrophobic zones, Gore Magala has been in a rather frustrating place due to the game cameras' inability to keep up with the action. To combat this, Capcom has made some changes to the camera, increasing the distance between it and certain monsters.

While Gore Magala is the only monster directly mentioned in the patch notes, presumably, the change will affect any abnormally large monster. Regardless of the breadth of the changes, at the very least, Gore Magala will become a much more manageable fight without the incessant camera issues it tends to exacerbate. The change, too, shows that Capcom is listening to player , as it's not the type of issue that makes itself immediately apparent.

5 The Arena Opens

Scores To Beat, Cosmetics To Earn

Speedrunners and performance players rejoice: Wilds will finally be introducing the arena. Arena quests are special hunts that see players hunt a monster in an enclosed, instanced arena with pre-made gear sets. Scores are given to players based on how quickly the monster is defeated, with the new Grand Hub even having a public leaderboard. The arena is a tried and true Monster Hunter staple that provides a very tangible achievement to strive for.

Monster Hunter Wilds Will Never Be As Difficult As Iceborne, And It's All Because Of One Monster

Monster Hunter Wilds has received a lot of criticism for how easy it is, but after Iceborne's controversy, it may never be that difficult.

13

Capcom appears to be pulling out all the stops for Wilds' incarnation of the arena, with cosmetic rewards being doled out based on performance. Notably, Rey Day will have an arena quest with its own beautiful, themed pendant for players who get an adequate score. Challenge quests are also being added, which are similar to arena quests in their gear limitations and timed aspect, but with the caveat of limited availability. With both arena and challenge quests being added, competitive and casual players will have something to strive for.

4 Performance Fixes For Steam

The Start Of A Long Road For Wilds

Sure, new monsters and cosmetics are fantastic, but at the end of the day, Title Update 1 would not have been complete without some form of relief for Wilds' performance issues. Thankfully, for Steam specifically, Title Update 1 brings with it a fix for VRAM usage, which will, hopefully, drastically improve the game's performance.

Wilds' launch day release was a very frustrating day for PC fans, who took the brunt of Wilds' performance and optimization issues. I'm doubtful that this patch is the be-all-end-all for performance improvements, but, at the very least, I'm confident that more players will finally be able to jump into the fun. The exact impact of the change is yet to be seen, but allowing more fans to experience Wilds is perhaps the most worthwhile fix that could be made.

3 The Grand Hub Gives Multiplayer A New Home

The Gathering Hub Returns In Wilds

One of the most exciting editions is the all-new Grand Hub, Monster Hunter Wilds' take on the classic gathering hub. Gathering hubs are, in some ways, a relic of the past. Previous Monster Hunter titles had a more rigid split between online and single-player, with the gathering hub functioning as the place, besides hunts, where players could see and interact with each other. While Wilds' more seamless world fulfills this purpose already, the gathering hub is a series tradition that I'm glad is back.

You Might Be Ignoring Monster Hunter Wilds' Most Useful Feature

Monster Hunter Wilds has an under looked feature that completely reinvents the endgame grind; an extremely useful tool for any endgame player.

Luckily, even though the hub has less of a purpose now, Capcom still went all out in its design. The Grand Hub is full of minigames, a shared cutscene performance, fishing spots, the arena leaderboard, and, finally, a place to eat meals with fellow hunters. Beyond these features, the hub is massive and beautiful enough that Wilds' 100-player lobby sizes make much more sense. Frankly, with the lack of a hub on release, my expectations were relatively low for the absent feature, but Capcom delivered one of the best gathering hubs of the franchise.

2 Mizutsune Splashes Into Wilds

The Elusive Monster Is Here To Stay

While Mizutsune hasn't been absent long — the monster was included in Rise's launch roster — there's a reason it keeps returning. The iconic leviathan has one of the most distinct movesets in the entire franchise, with the monster dotting the zone with bubbles through elusive, dance-like movements. The light purple and pink-hued kimono armor is also a standout design from its original creation in Monster Hunter Generations.

Mizutsune also comes with a new status effect: bubble blight. Be sure to bring some cleansers before undertaking the challenge.

What's more, Mizutsune isn't quite the same leviathan, so even long-term Monster Hunter players have something to look forward to in the classic fight. Wilds has shown that it has an interest in revamping time-tested fights for the new generation of titles, with Rathalos even initially appearing in its new, guardian variant. As such, even though Mizutsune hasn't been gone for long, I'm as excited as ever to jump back in and see exactly what has changed while likely getting hit by a few bubble beams.

1 Zoh Shia Makes Its Awaited Entrance

Wilds' Final Boss Is Finally Huntable In HR

Finally, the most exciting edition in Monster Hunter Wilds 1.010 update is the return of Zoh Shia, Wilds' final boss. It's been a month since I've hunted Zoh Shia, the bookend to Wilds' story, which, until now, was not re-huntable. Zoh Shia feels like a distant memory with the inability to have a rematch and the absence of any armor or weapons to craft. With Title Update 1's release, Zoh Shia will be huntable once players hit HR 50 and begin its related story quest.

As Zoh Shia is a one-of-a-kind monster within Wilds' narrative, the means of its return should be of interest to anyone enjoyed the unique nature of its existence. For cutscene-skippers, Zoh Shia's HR version will still provide a new target hunt to add to the mix of zone apexes and Arkveld. As far as final bosses go, Zoh Shia felt like one of the best in my limited experience, and I'm personally looking forward to ing that claim with a few dozen hunts to make up for lost time.

Zoh Shia's armor and weapons, with their winged white and black design, look amazing, while also boasting a comfy armor-set skill that constantly recovers player health.

Overall, Wilds' Title Update 1 brings an almost absurd level of content to the game. If Capcom can keep up the tempo, Wilds may enjoy being one of the most ed post-game experiences of a base game title. Based on the current roap, much more is coming to Wilds, with the particularly exciting addition of the long-lost Lagiacrus arriving in Title Update 2. For Monster Hunter Wilds, the future is undeniably bright.
