The Monster Hunter Wilds will hit PC and consoles in the first quarter of the new year, and an interview with the developers has revealed that the game will include some well-requested features at launch - including crossplay. The highly-anticipated RPG has big shoes to fill when it releases, but promotional trailers and details already have fan hopes at an all-time high.

Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, designer Kaname Fujioka, and director Yuya Tokuda confirmed that crossplay should be available to all players at launch when speaking with Multiplayer.it during Tokyo Game Show 2024. Crossplay hasn't always been available on release for Monster Hunter titles, and some, like Monster Hunter World, still don't have crossplay . But this won't be the only new feature brought to the game, according to the interview with the developers.

Monster Hunter Wilds' Crossplay Will Also Allow For Bigger Lobbies

Up To 16 Players Can One Lobby

Based on the interview, the developers have made crossplay an integral part of the release, making it just one of many features MH fans can look forward to. Players will be able to disable crossplay at any time to better control matchmaking when looking for others to game with. Unfortunately, cross-save and cross-progression won't be available for Monster Hunter Wilds - but there are some other impressive features the developers confirmed for the next title.

Monster Hunter Wilds Interview: Don't Worry, Rathalos Isn't Going Anywhere

Monster Hunter Wilds series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and art director and executive director Kaname Fujioka chat about the game.

Though players won't be able to take their progress across platforms, this is the most control a player will be able to have over who they play with online. The lobbies will now also hold up to 16 players at a time, and all players can be seen in the game's base camp. These are all some impressive quality-of-life improvements to the game's multiplayer format, but this and new monsters aren't the only things fans have in store, but it's not all good news.

Combat And Weapons See Some Significant Changes in Monster Hunter Wilds

Unfortunately, New Weapons Aren't A Priority

Monster Hunter players have been requesting some new weapon options for a long time, but it seems that new weapons aren't a priority to the developers at this moment. During the interview, the team confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will introduce the ability to have two weapons equipped simultaneously, making it easier to swap while monster hunting. That said, the developer itted they're more focused on improving the weapons already in the game over adding new ones.

My Gamescom 2024 hands-on playthrough of Monster Hunter Wilds finally made things click, and I can't wait to dive in at release.

Of course, there's a chance for this to change before the game's February release, but it doesn't seem likely at this point. In addition to making dual-wielding an option for hunters, the offensive skills will also be reallocated to the weapons as opposed to the armor. Because of that, creating builds before going out will be a bit different than in previous games, which is likely why new weapons aren't a priority.

The developers of Monster Hunter Wilds unveiled some other additions to the game, like the ability to see future weather forecasts for the first time ever, as well as an overhauled loadout system. Though players are likely to be a bit disappointed knowing that new weapons aren't a focus in this release, it seems like Monster Hunter Wilds will offer significant quality-of-life upgrades in addition to a new storyline.
