As he comes clean, the trailer showcases monsters (including Godzilla) in the show's different timelines, which include Wyatt Russell playing a younger Lee decades earlier.
Everything Revealed in the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Trailer
One of the most important reveals in this new trailer is the reveal that John Goodman will be reprising his original role from 2017's Kong: Skull Island. While the giant ape King Kong has reappeared in the MonsterVerse in the 2021 outing Godzilla vs. Kong, this marks the first time that any of the human cast have reprised their roles in the franchise. Goodman played Bill Randa, a senior Monarch official who died during the events of the movie and seems to have left behind a video exposing certain Monarch secrets.
The trailer also reveals other connections to the timeline of the MonsterVerse. In a more contemporary timeline, a shot of a devastated San Francisco reveals that it takes place in the wake of Godzilla's first rampage on the American mainland in 2014, in which he fought the new monsters known as MUTOs. Whether or not the show will catch up with the events of 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters and later remains unknown.
So far, the bulk of the plot of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters remains under wraps. However, this new trailer offers a closer glimpse at the show's cast of characters with hints as to which timeline they each belong in. It also showcases some elements of a post-kaiju world, including a Godzilla evacuation route set out in a civilian area.
