Monsterverse villain known as the Skar King.

Because the Apple TV+ series and the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel are close to a decade apart on the characters to reach that point. But based on a scene in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 6, the idea that the show is laying the groundwork for Godzilla and Kong's next team-up doesn't seem so unfeasible.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Teased A Titan Battle Bigger Than All Other Monsterverse Fights

Kurt Russell's Lee Shaw has been adamant that something catastrophic is on its way, and that he's been trying to warn Monarch about this threat for years. While being questioned by Duvall about it, Shaw called the new threat "G-Day times a 100." Either this comparison is an extreme comparison, or Shaw is suggesting that a Titan battle far worse than anything modern civilization has faced is on the horizon. G-Day, the fight that saw Godzilla take on two MUTOs in San Francisco, was a battle with devastating consequences, yet the Monsterverse is claiming that it can offer a battle that multiplies the scale of G-Day by a 100.

Godzilla's fight with Ghidorah, nor his battles with Kong or Mechagodzilla, match the lofty expectations set by Shaw's comments. The promise of "G-Day times a 100" happening in the Monsterverse indicates that a multitude of Titans will threaten the Earth. That technically does happen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but there's no way Shaw could predict the eco-terrorists' plot to free Ghidorah, making it highly unlikely that this is the problem he's worried about. Not only that, but it sounds like Shaw is expecting a lot more Titans to show up than what appeared in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

How Godzilla X Kong Can Justify Shaw's Titan Battle Tease

Theories pertaining to the story for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire explain how an event of that magnitude could be possible. It's long been believed that all the talk of a Titan War in Godzilla vs. Kong, and the setup for it to be explored in the sequel, is meant to pave the way for a new Titan War to transpire in modern times. Such a battle would make sense, as it would allow the next movie to have higher stakes than its predecessor. Plus, it would give justification for a team-up between Godzilla and Kong, two Titans who should be able to deal with any singular threat independently.

The launch of a new Titan War would properly for Shaw's tease of "G-Day times a 100." Dozens, if not hundreds, of Titans rising out of hibernation and engaging in an all-out war on the surface could decimate the human population and create severe setbacks the world wouldn't be able to recover from. If that's what Shaw is so concerned with, that would explain the conviction he expresses in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

How Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Can Set Up Godzilla X Kong

There are multiple ways Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 1 could be Legnedary's way of gearing up for the fifth Monsterverse movie. One possibility is that long ago, Shaw and his Monarch allies learned about the "colossal undiscovered threat" mentioned in the Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire synopsis. Keeping it, which may or may not be the Skar King, from returning and waging war on the surface could be his central goal.

Or, the connection to the sequel could be far less direct, but present all the same. It could be that Shaw only has a tangential awareness of what will happen in the Monsterverse's future. He may know just enough about the Titan War to know that something similar could unfold in the years ahead. Depending on how Monarch: Legacy of Monsters wraps up, it has the potential to serve as an excellent building block toward the disaster headed for the Monsterverse in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
