After being picked up by UPN, Moesha went on to become one of the network's biggest hits; however, Moesha was abruptly canceled after season 6, leaving many fans of the show wondering why. Moesha aired from 1996 until 2001 and starred R&B singer Brandy Norwood as the titular teenage girl Moesha Denise Mitchell. The sitcom followed the lives of a typical American family; however, it was notable for addressing issues not often seen in family-oriented programming, like race relations and teenage sex. One such plotline was left unresolved by the end of Moesha season 6 — why was the hit show canceled, and why were there questions left unanswered?

Moesha, a classic sitcom, doesn't have quite as recognizable a title as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but was nonetheless an important show that featured a strong cast. In addition to Brandy, whose first album went quadruple Platinum just a few years before the young singer played Moesha, the cast included Sheryl Lee Ralph, Countess Vaughn, William Allen Young, Shar Jackson, and Ray J — Brandy's brother and fellow musician. Likewise, Moesha was nominated for 32 awards and won three: two NAA Image Awards and one SHINE Award. The series was syndicated and still airs around the world. Netflix picked up streaming rights to Moesha in 2020, which became available to US subscribers in the same year. As new viewers discovered, however, despite how influential Moesha was, it ends abruptly after a significant cliffhanger for the main character in the Moesha season 6 finale. Despite the recognition, the show steadily declined in ratings, leading to Moesha's cancelation.

While Moesha season 7 never happened—as big a disappointment as Netflix canceling  after season 4Moesha season 6 ended on a huge cliffhanger that still remains unresolved to this day. Although the Moesha spinoff series, The Parkers, was supposed to address the cliffhanger, this too never came to fruition. Here's all the information on the dangling Moesha season 6 storyline, and why Moesha got canceled before season 7.

Moesha Season 7 Cancelation And Pregnancy Cliffhanger Explained

Brandy Norwood as Moesha Mitchell in a promo still for Moesha.

Moesha Mitchell went through quite the journey on Moesha. At the beginning of the series, Moesha was still dealing with her mother's death a few years prior and learning to come to with her new stepmother, Deirdre "Dee" Mitchel (Sheryl Lee Ralph) — who just happened to be the vice principal at Moesha's school. Moesha season 6 sees Moesha experiencing the trials and tribulations of being a young adult, complete with an engagement to long-time on-again, off-again boyfriend Quinton "Q" Brooks (Fredro Starr) and attending college.

Moesha's final episode ends with the reveal of a positive pregnancy test in Moesha's dorm — who it belongs to, however, is a mystery. By the time of Moesha season 6's ending, Moesha and Hakeem are back together, Moesha's best friend Neicy is dating Hakeem's roommate Jerome, and Moesha's roommate Alice is romantically involved as well. Thus, it's uncertain which of the three girls the pregnancy test is from. Since Moesha season 7 never happened, the storyline was never resolved.

According to possible Moesha reboot series in the works, perhaps this Moesha storyline — as well as the question of what happened to Moesha's brother Myles, who disappeared in the finale — can finally be laid to rest.
