Though it has now concluded its final season, Modern Family has definitely left a lasting impression on the popular culture landscape including analyzing Modern Family zodiac signs. Modern Family is a mockumentary in which the Dunphy family, and their extended family including the Pritchetts, Tuckers, and Delgados, are followed for over a decade as their children grow up. The focus is on those family connections but with plenty of sitcom tropes thrown in for good measure.

One of the best aspects of Modern Family is that so many of the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker-Delgado family are so different from one another. Many of them share an enthusiastic nature, but their enthusiasm is almost always aimed at very different areas of their lives. It's what makes the audience intrigued by the characters as they can all find someone to connect with – or match their zodiac sign to.

ARIES: Phil Dunphy

One of the most dominant traits associated with Aries is enthusiasm. Seen as the "youngest" sign in the zodiac, Aries is known for their ion. No matter what activity it is, Aries can be counted on to be willing to throw themselves in headfirst.

There’s no question that Phil Dunphy's Modern Family zodiac sign is Aries. The sweet, lovable, and excitable Phil is definitely the most enthusiastic character in the entire show. Whether it's activities with Luke or family vacations, Phil throws himself in wholeheartedly. He's also always the first to try and bond with Haley's boyfriends. Whether it is showing his love and devotion to his wife Claire or making sure that he is part of his children’s lives in every way possible, Phil is everything an Aries should be.

TAURUS: Mitchell Pritchett

Mitchell in a confessional interview on Modern Family

It’s no surprise that the bull is one of the steadier and more sensible signs in the zodiac, always relying on logic and practicality. As such, Tauruses will no doubt find themselves identifying with the ever-pragmatic Mitchell, who constantly finds himself having to deal with the excitable natures of both his husband Cam and his sister Claire. To his credit, Mitchell usually does so with (at least some amount of) patience and understanding.

Though bending the truth isn't typically a trait associated with any particular zodiac sign, Mitchell's use of lying actually is a result of his Taurus traits. Taurus is a sign that values safety and stability. Whenever Mitchell thinks something is going to cause drama in his relationships, or might cause someone to abandon him, he lies about it. This is true from the pilot when he doesn't initially tell his family that he and Cam adopted a baby. It's also true when he its he lied to Cam about Lily's last name, making it Pritchett instead of Tucker-Pritchett when they adopt her, because he's still worried Cam will leave him.

GEMINI: Haley Dunphy

Haley poses for her mugshot in Modern Family

As an air sign, Geminis can be a bit indecisive, often flitting from project to project and never being quite able to settle on one. Though she is incredibly charming and intelligent in her own way, Haley Dunphy constantly frustrates her parents on Modern Family, because she seems unwilling or unable to settle down and focus, whether that be on school or even on her relationships. Like a true Gemini, however, she is also a lot of fun to be around, and that charm creates the other half of her ultimately lovable dual nature.

Geminis are also incredibly adaptable, demonstrated well through Haley's growth and her relationships in the show. Haley doesn't date a specific "type," but allows herself to see where various relationships lead. She tries out different jobs and career paths until she finds something that actually suits her. Haley is the embodiment of a Gemini in Modern Family's zodiac signs.

CANCER: Claire Dunphy

Claire driving to school on Modern Family

Claire is the kind of woman who is determined to get it all and, for the most part, she succeeds, managing to attain both professional success and closeness with all the of her family. There’s also no question that she is incredibly protective of everyone in her life, whether that is her children, her husband, or her father. They all know that they can count on her, and Cancers will find that very relatable.

Not only is Cancer a very protective sign of those they care about, but they also hold grudges when they're hurt. That's why Claire is one of the characters most likely to bring up an incident from her childhood in an argument with her father or her brother. They're also a very sensitive sign, seeing themselves in others around them, which explains Claire being so hard on Haley. Claire sees a lot of herself in her eldest daughter, and wants even better for her.

LEO: Gloria Pritchett

Gloria twirling her hair in Modern Family

Gloria is something of an exuberant personality, which makes her such a hilariously incongruous partner for the more down-to-earth Jay. But as a Leo, Gloria is able to command a room and draw every eye to her. Just as importantly–and quite typically for a Leo–she’s also someone that can take charge when she needs to do so. She's the perfect fit in the balance of the Modern Family zodiac.

Leos are often the life of the party, but they're also natural leaders. Some of the family resent her after she and Jay first marry because she draws attention to herself so naturally. Gloria doesn't always want all the attention, but her commanding nature means that most of the family is going to listen to her when she speaks.

VIRGO: Alex Dunphy

Alex and her parents watch fireworks in an episode of Modern Family

Alex is somewhat of the black sheep in her family. Far more bookish than almost anyone else, she is a total intellectual and often comes off as the smartest character in Modern Family, always striving to be better. In that sense, she is definitely a Virgo, particularly since she is a perfectionist, never willing to settle for anything less than the best.

As any Virgo can attest, though, she is also fiercely loyal and loving to her family, no matter how much they irritate her. Alex spends her childhood studying and making plans to get as far away from her family as possible, but she's constantly drawn back into the drama as she grows up, usually to help one of her siblings. Her hard work as a studious Virgo in the Modern Family zodiac signs pays off, though, as she eventually achieves her dream of doing academic research on the other side of the world.

LIBRA: Manny Delgado

Manny Delgado smiling on Modern Family

One of the funniest–and best–parts of the show is watching the interactions between Manny and Jay. Theirs is truly a relationship of opposites, yet somehow they make it work. In part, this is because, like any good Libra, Manny always strives for at least a measure of balance in his life. More than that, though, he is also deeply comionate and, for the most part, proves himself adaptable to life in the Pritchett household.

Libra is a lot like Gemini. They're able to adapt to new situations quickly and are willing to try new things. They are, however, a little more grounded than Libras as they seek to share those new experiences with someone and often take on the leadership role. This is evident in the friendship that develops between Luke and Manny. While Luke might have a lot of the ideas for their zany plans, it's Manny who reins him in and takes more practical approaches to their shenanigans.

SCORPIO: Lily Tucker-Pritchett

Lily kneeling on the bed and smiling in Modern Family

Lily is one of those children who is just bound to be precocious. Given the fact that she is raised by Cam and Mitchell, it’s not really a surprise that she has a rather dominant personality. The Scorpios in the audience will recognize more than a little in themselves in Lily, particularly her ion for what she loves to do (and her total disinterest if something bores her), as well as her rather waspish sense of humor.

Scorpios don't usually hold back if they dislike something, and Lily is more than ready to make it known when she disagrees with one of the popular kids at school or something one of her cousins wants to do. They also, however, can be incredibly secretive if they're afraid of getting hurt, something Lily also exemplifies as a teenager. She only holds back from her dads when they think she won't understand what she's going through. Once she knows they can relate to her trouble with boys or her friends, she's more than willing to be honest with them.

OPHIUCHUS: Sal

Sal laughs while Mitch and Cam look distraught from Modern Family

Sal might not be a member of the Dunphy family (and in fact, the audience never even learns her last name during her recurring presence), but she may as well be. She's Cam and Mitch's oldest friend, and as they like to say, they practically raised her. Sal is a great embodiment of Ophiuchus, the often maligned thirteenth zodiac sign that doesn't make its way into traditional astrological charts.

Ophiuchus combines the aggression and stubborn nature of a Scorpio with the wanderlust and love of adventure of a Sagittarius. With Sal always wanting to be on the move, whether that's through parties or in new chapters of her love life, and her tendency to get jealous of Lily's relationship with their "shared dads", she certainly fits the bill of this unique Modern Family zodiac sign.

SAGITTARIUS: Luke Dunphy

Luke in a talking head on Modern Family

It’s very easy to underestimate Luke Dunphy, precisely because he comes across as a bit naive and bumbling. However, what has always set him apart is the fact that he’s so open about his affections, particularly for his father with whom he seems to be especially close. This makes him a good Sagittarius, a sign that is known for embracing others, and the fact that Luke is always so willing to help solidifies that association.

Sagittarius is also often called the philosopher of the zodiac. They think outside the box, which is part of the reason Luke can so often land himself in hot water with his mother. Despite his love for his family, Luke's schemes to have a good time can put him at odds with the parents in his life, like when he and Manny use their uncles' house to throw a party when they're supposed to be babysitting Lily. Luke means well, but he doesn't look before he leaps.
