Warning: Spoilers for the season finale of MobLandTom Hardy's Harry Da Souza was perhaps the most significant protagonist in Paramount+'s a new war is already on the horizon for Harry, he has another, more intimate problem to deal with first.

At the end of the final episode of the gritty crime drama's first season, a frustrated Jan Da Souza (Joanne Froggatt) lets loose a physical Freudian slip by stabbing Harry in the chest with a kitchen knife. After literal years of uncertainty, fear, and frustration surrounding Harry's job and her and Gina's place in his life, Jan packed her long-gestating rage into a single, absent-minded motion while chopping vegetables. The moment acted as a brief payoff to an entire season's worth of tension between Harry and Jan, and finally addressed one of the most baffling elements of Harry's character.

Jan Was Finally About To Leave Harry In MobLand

She Was Finally Pushed Over The Edge

Joanne Froggatt as Jan Da Souza in MobLand

From the very first episode of MobLand, Jan's primary point of concern has been her and her daughter always coming second to Harry's other family, the Harrigans. She spends the early episodes trying to get Harry to attend couples therapy or counseling, and is often frustrated when his violent tasks for the Harrigans prevent him from attending. Her frustration with her marriage is actually the key point that the undercover informant Alice (AKA Nicola) attaches to that allows her to earn Jan's trust.

With their lives constantly in danger, it was both relieving and satisfying to see Jan stand up for herself and her daughter.

What was most vexing about the entire situation was that, despite multiple occasions of being forced out of her home, a threatening visit from Conrad, and masked gunmen showing up to kill her and her family, Jan simply put her head down and bullied through each situation. It's undoubtedly true that leaving Harry was never as simple as loading Gina into a car and driving away, given the fact that they were targets for the Stevensons due to their association with Harry. However, Jan still never even seemed to really contemplate leaving him until that final scene in the kitchen.

Jan finally saying enough was enough is a key moment for her character, and an important one for MobLand viewers. The hell that Jan and Gina were put through over the course of the season had long since crossed the threshold of unacceptable, regardless of what Harry's job is. They were clearly living comfortably, indicating that, as the Harrigans' trusted fixer, Harry was providing well for his wife and daughter. However, with their lives constantly in danger, it was both relieving and satisfying to see Jan stand up for herself and her daughter.

Will Jan Still Leave Harry In MobLand Season 2?

Jan And Harry's Fate Is Tough To Predict

Assuming Harry survives the stabbing, Harry and Jan's future is very much in limbo at the end of season 1. In some ways, the stabbing was a good thing for their marriage, because, as Harry tells Jan with a breathless chuckle, she has his attention now. It's made it perfectly clear to Harry that the situation they have been in is no longer tenable for Jan and Gina, whether he believes they are "safe" or not. In fact, they may be in more danger than ever before given Harry's newfound feud with the mysterious and powerful Kat McAllister.

There is no doubt that they still love each other, otherwise Jan would never have put up with Harry's lifestyle and job for as many years as she has. Harry is also a master at defusing tension and talking his way out of things, so if anyone is capable of making Jan feel reassured and safe, it's Harry. On top of everything else, Jan leaving Harry (with the Stevensons no longer a concern) would make a ton of sense, and if the characters did the sensible thing it just wouldn't be MobLand.
