More Power Rangers Are Being Zombified

For those wondering why the BOOM! Rangers franchise has been so concerned with reanimated versions of the Rangers lately, it all boils down to the Death Ranger, who just returned to form an alliance with Mistress Vile (fka Rita Repulsa). The most recent issue of the series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #110, serves as a prelude to Darkest Hour. In this story the Death Ranger is seen ing the battlefield with newly zombified versions of the Wild Force Rangers. The Death Ranger has the power to resurrect people, albeit perverted versions of people that make them evil zombies. These zombies help form the basis for Mistress Vile's army.

Darkest Hour will be the Rangers' Darkest Arc Yet

If the prelude to Darkest Hour already wasn't a strong indicator for what's to come, these variant covers hint at what could possibly be the darkest era of Power Rangers yet. The franchise has not gone this bleak since the Shattered Grid storyline. That arc introduced a post-apocalyptic future, the multiverse, and a Tommy Oliver who stayed evil, adopting the villainous new moniker Lord Drakkon. It appears that Darkest Hour will offer much of the same degree of misery, only with exponentially higher stakes and potentially a new Lord Drakkon on the horizon. Speaking of Lord Drakkon, even he has been lingering in the background trying to prevent Rita from coming into power.

As Trini pronounces at the start of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #110, if Drakkon of all people is scared of what Rita has in store, then everyone is in serious trouble. Lo and behold, as the ending of that issue suggests that as Rita's plans fall into place, everyone is in serious trouble. Now, Darkest Hour will deliver fans an entire year of gloominess as it ushers in the most hopeless era in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers history.
