MLB 25 will feature legendary players, fields, and gear from the wonderful world of baseball, allowing players to live out their on-field (and off-field) dreams in a realistic simulation.

MLB The Show 25 will build on the legacy of previous MLB games, featuring new updates to its graphics and core mechanics for a more exciting and immersive baseball simulation than ever before. As always, it's expected to feature a variety of different game modes, including Franchise Mode for developing teams, Road to the Show for charting a player's journey, and good old-fashioned baseball in both single- and multiplayer formats. Here's everything to know about when it comes out, where it can be played, and the three cover athletes featured on its various edition covers.

MLB The Show 25 Releases On March 18

MLB 25 Release Date & Platforms

MLB The Show 25 will be released on March 18, 2025, across all platforms. (Players who preorder certain editions may be able to get up to four days' early access, beginning the game as early as March 14.) This is consistent with previous MLB games' launch times, which typically land in mid-to-late March to coincide with the start of the baseball season. And true to form, it'll line right up with the first official game of the 2025 season, taking place that same day.

Players can begin putting in preorders for MLB The Show 25 on February 4, 2025, beginning at 11 AM EST. The preorder period will likely last until the game's full release on March 18; typically, it's still possible to get in on the early access periods of sports games even after they've begun, as long as the player preorders the correct edition prior to the launch date.

As always, MLB The Show 25 will be available in multiple, variously priced editions, each of which comes with certain bonuses for those who preorder them. They'll likely look quite a bit like MLB 24's edition structure, although no plans for a deluxe edition have been announced yet. Players must preorder the Digital Deluxe Edition to receive early access, for example. Some editions may only be available for a limited time, and could become unavailable after launch. It can be purchased in either digital or physical editions from any online or brick-and-mortar retailer where video games are sold.

Early access times may vary by region. Further updates will likely be provided closer to launch.

MLB The Show 25 Is Skipping Game & Last Gen's Platforms

Where To Play MLB The Show 25

However, unlike even MLB The Show 24, 25 won't be available on any previous-generation consoles: i.e., PS5 and Xbox X/S only, no PS4 or Xbox One. This goes along with Sony's recently renewed focus on the PS5, but is likely to exclude many players who still haven't upgraded from their PS4s and Xbox Ones. It's not the first sports game to make this leap recently, either; most left the previous generation behind either this year or last.

This is also the first year in recent memory that MLB The Show has opted to skip a day-one Game release, at least for now. Both MLB The Show 23 and 24 came to Game on day one of their respective launches; Game players were even able to enjoy a few days of early access to 23. It may come to the service after launch, but no plans have been announced just yet.

MLB The Show 25 Features Three Cover Athletes

Making MLB The Show History

MLB The Show 25 Players.

For the first time in franchise history, MLB The Show 25 will feature three different cover athletes: Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz, and Gunnar Henderson. It's unclear whether these three will each have their own separate covers, perhaps featuring in different editions, or whether they'll share the same one. Regardless, the position of cover star has always been a way to honor the latest and greatest in the league, and 2025 is no exception.

Paul Skenes is a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, having been selected first overall by the team in 2023. He has a long history with baseball, having begun as a high school varsity player, and then playing for college teams like the Air Force Falcons and LSU Tigers. He won the John Olerud Award (for the best two-way player) at the former, then went on to win a Southeastern Conference, a Dick Howser Trophy, and a Most Outstanding Player award at the College World Series with the latter. Since ing the MLB, he's become the first player to start at the All-Star Game a year after being drafted, made Rookie of the Year in 2024, and is a member of the All-MLB First Team.

Elly De La Cruz, shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds, has also been with his team since 2023. He came up through the minor leagues, beginning on the Dominican Summer League Reds at 17, and eventually being promoted from the Louisville Bats to the Reds. De La Cruz is a powerful hitter who doesn't sacrifice on speed or throwing strength, and, during his MLB debut season, became the youngest player ever to hit for the cycle since César Cedeño in 1972. He also holds the record for most bases stolen by a Reds player before the All-Star break.

Baltimore Orioles shortstop and third baseman Gunnar Henderson makes up the final piece of the cover star triple threat for MLB The Show 25. The 42nd overall draft pick of 2019, Henderson made his MLB debut in 2022, the same year in which he was named a top-100 prospect after making his way up through the Orioles' minor league farm system. He was named the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year that same season. In 2023, he unanimously won Rookie of the Year. He also participated in the 2024 Home Run Derby and All-Star Game.

And for now, that's just about everything there is to know about the next MLB game. Further details are likely to be revealed closer to launch, including its many game modes, and any major gameplay or graphical changes since the previous entry. Players can begin their MLB The Show 25 preorder processes as soon as February 4, ahead of the game's release on March 18 (or March 14 with early access).
