Filming for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two has not been impacted by the Writers Guild of America strike despite previous reports. Earlier this month, the eighth installment in the long-running spy franchise was reportedly halted due to the ongoing WGA strike. Estimated to be nearly 40 percent complete, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two is slated to land in theaters in June 2024.

Per Deadline, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two has not been affected by the industry-wide WGA strike. Although production of the action-adventure film is not currently underway, this is reportedly due to director Christopher McQuarrie and star Tom Cruise's efforts to promote Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which is slated to hit theaters on July 12. Following their press tour, production on the eighth film will continue later in the summer.

Although Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two will be able to continue shooting what could be the final entry in the spy franchise, many other productions have not been so lucky. The second season for Star Wars' Andor has been completely halted due to the ongoing negotiations, alongside Showtime's Yellowjackets season 3, ABC's award-winning workplace comedy Abbott Elementary, and the final season of Stranger Things. Live broadcast programming, such as late night talk shows, have also ceased filming due to their writers halting work.

Certain shows that have completed their scripts before the strike was enacted by the WGA will be able to continue production as normal. However, no additional rewrites will be possible during filming as that will count as new material. This is the case with Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, as well as with television shows like House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers have so far failed to make any real progress with their negotiations. With no end in sight, many television networks will likely push for more reality programming, similar to the results of past strikes. Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two will hopefully be able to make its June 2024 release date, barring any need to rewrite significant scenes.
