The Phantasmal Doll isn't the most expensive item in Metaphor: ReFantazio, but costs tens of thousands more Reeves compared to the average accessory available early in the game. With the ability to give the equipped two consecutive actions instead of one, this seems like a must-buy. However, there is one hidden element to its effect that the item description doesn't tell players.
There are plenty of merchants in the game that can sell important gear and ingredients, just like Metaphor: ReFantazio's Wary Shopkeep once his inventory is unlocked. The fact that the Phantasmal Doll is only available in Grand Trad's Gloamhall shop at night also makes it seem like an important purchase anyone would regret skipping out on. Once the full depth of its abilities is revealed, it turns out it's not as useful in as many situations as one might think.
Should You Buy The Phantasmal Doll In Metaphor: ReFantazio?
Not In The Early Game
At the price of 49,000 Reeve, the Phantasmal Doll is not worth buying for Metaphor: ReFantazio players who are in the first 10–15 hours of their playthrough, specifically while playing through the early story section in Grand Trad. This is because while its item description states the wearer can perform "two consecutive actions," it turns out that this extra second turn comes at the cost of another party member skipping their own turn. This means that parties with a member who has the doll accessory equipped won't be granted an extra Turn Icon for free.
Players can get the Phantasmal Doll on Idlesday at a weekly 20% discount price of 39,200 Reeve if they really want to buy it.
On the other hand, the Phantasmal Doll can still be useful for specific situations, like when needing the equipped party member to perform a second use of a skill which only they know, like an Electric Magic skill that can help beat the Sea Horror Homo Sabara boss. In the very early stages of the game, where it can first be bought, though, this accessory is not worth spending 49,000 Reeve on, since its small benefit is far outweighed by the time it would take for the player to grind that money back at this point in the story.
What Should You Spend Money On Instead?
More Gear Upgrades
Instead of spending 49,000 Reeve on the Phantasmal Doll, it's better to spend the money earned early in Metaphor: ReFantazio on upgrading weapons and equipment. That includes other stat-boosting accessories to better outfit the party. As players begin to get to grips with the more advanced combat, it's easy to become under-leveled when taking on strong bosses like the Grostesque Guptauros.

Metaphor: ReFantazio - Archetypes Tier List
This Metaphor: ReFantazio Archetypes tier list will tell you which of the many classes available in the game are the best to use in the huge campaign.
With that, it's far more ideal to prioritize spending funds on buffing up the team, at least until players leave Grand Trad in the later hours of the game's early section. As players save up more Reeve by learning how to farm money and beating stronger enemies, they can always afford the Phantasmal Doll later. It's therefore possible to return to Grand Trad at a later time in Metaphor: ReFantazio and buy the Phantasmal Doll when it's less likely to break the bank and might be more useful.
