The Mercedes-Benz Wallbox charger comes with a handful of smart features, including allowing owners to control and monitor their crazy EV concepts, but its all-electric lineup is anything but fantasy.

In 2021, the company released its first EQ-series model in the form of the S-Class based EQS sedan, followed by the seven-seater EQB SUV. The EQ lineup represents vehicles using the Mercedes-Benz scalable EV architecture, combining luxury with better, more sustainable mileage, which will be coming to a handful of future models including the EQA compact SUV, the EQV van and the EQE mid-sized sedan. While the cost of charging EVs at home might seem enticing, the process can be cumbersome due the long wait times and often inconvenient usability, this is where the new Mercedes-Benz charging solution comes in.

The Mercedes-Benz Wallbox is meant to accompany its growing fleet of EVs, but can also charge other EV make and models conveniently. In a press release, the manufacturer revealed that the Wallbox can be operated remotely using the Mercedes me App, which allows charge monitoring and more. The EV charging unit comes at a suggested retail price of 990 Euros, which equates to roughly $1,124. It is expected to launch in Europe some time in April, with release in other countries to follow.

How Much Control Does Wallbox Offer?

With EV charging stations becoming a new household requirement in some places, opting for the Mercedes-Benz Wallbox might be worth considering given the many conveniences it brings. For starters, owners can not only monitor their EV's charging status via the Wallbox's multi-colored LED indicators, they can also start and stop the process manually using the app. The app can also display the vehicle's current charging state and history, as well as deliver an overview of the energy costs it had accrued. This makes it possible for owners to manage multiple vehicles while on the go, giving them control over each charging process individually.

When it comes to security, owners can prevent unauthorized usage by remotely locking the Wallbox using either the app or a soon-to-be-ed RFID card. Of course, its current set of features won't be final, as the Mercedes-Benz Wallbox can still receive over-the-air updates that could add even more functionality. Overall, it seems like Mercedes-Benz is putting a lot of emphasis on making these charging stations more accessible and convenient, but without the added controversy.
