Meghan Markle has distanced herself from longtime best friend Jessica Mulroney following her recent online spat with the fellow Instagram star Sasha Exeter. The Suits star and fashion stylist were pals for around a decade. However, reports have emerged that their friendship is now over. Let's have a look at how they met and became friends.
The duo first met in 2011, when Meghan was married to Trevor Engelson and moved to Canada to shoot for her super hit paralegal show, Suits. Jessica has been a fashion influencer, so she gave the TV star a few tips about styling off-camera as well as on-camera. Eventually, the two bonded over their shared interests of Yoga, travel, and fashion and became best friends. They were spotted taking vacations together, and Meghan also shared plenty of photos with her ex-bestie before deactivated her social media profile.
Although Jessica was not the maid of honor Meghan's wedding, her three children served as bridal attendants. In May 2018, the Canadian fashionista and her children attended the royal wedding of Meghan and Prince Harry. While her nine-year-old twin sons, John and Brian, carried the bride's train down the St. George's Chapel aisle, her 7-year-old daughter played flower girl along with the other kids. After a few months, the Duchess of Sussex announced her pregnancy, and Jessica attended her baby shower in New York. The two were also spotted having macaroons at Laduree and dinner at the Polo Bar while Meghan was in the city. Jessica and her husband cum popular TV personality Ben Mulroney have hosted dinner parties for Meghan and Prince Harry in Toronto.
But then Jessica got involved in the white privilege scandal with IG influencer Sasha Exeter, who is a Black woman. Well, Sasha was using her social media as a platform to urge fellow influencers (Jessica as well) and followers to voice their opposition on racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. However, Jessica took the generic appeal as a personal attack and responded with threatening messages. She even threatened to talk to Sasha's sponsors and potential clients and risk her livelihood. When Sasha called her out on Instagram, Jessica made a public apology. While doing that, she dragged Meghan's name in between her personal tiff about racism, which played as the final straw for their friendship. Meghan's close friend stated, "Meghan is absolutely mortified that she's been dragged into this complete mess. She said Jessica is in no way a racist, but the way she handled the situation (with the fashion influencer) was tone-deaf and heartbreaking."
After DMing good luck with the libel case to Sasha, Jessica is staying low and away from the media eye. Apparently, the social media celebrity has also hired a crisis PR team to work on her public image. Let's see how that goes.
