Warning! SPOILERS for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

X-Men's movie rights and made its own decades-long film franchise starting in 2000 and ending in 2020. This came after Disney bought 20th Century, reverting the X-Men movie rights to Marvel Studios, queuing up the studio to reboot the mutants as part of the MCU.

Kevin Feige and the rest of Marvel's team have taken a slow approach to introducing mutants, as the X-Men still aren't formed in the MCU. Marvel Studios has plans to use Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool in Patrick Stewart's return as Professor X. The lack of mutants in the shared universe could be retconned whenever Marvel fully integrates the X-Men, especially since two mutants in the comics have already appeared - Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, and Pietro Maximoff, a.k.a. Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).

Now that audiences have seen the continuation of the Scarlet Witch's MCU story in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen is thinking about what comes next. In multiple interviews, the actress has said that she doesn't have any specific ideas in mind for where she wants Wanda's story to go next, instead suggesting that she wants to hear what fans want and talk to Kevin Feige about the possibilities. During a recent interview with MCU's X-Men reboot.

I don't really know what I do next after this movie. I don't really know. I want to know what fans want, and what the ideas are. But I guess you just said it, if we're bringing X-Men back, I'll want to be there. But I have no actual plans yet. I am very excited to talk with Kevin about that at some point.

Scarlet Witch's role in the MCU's X-Men reboot would be another unexpected twist in her story. While Wanda Maximoff started as the mutant daughter of Magneto in the comics, she was given a brand new backstory in WandaVision gave her Chaos Magic and made her the legendary Scarlet Witch. Marvel could now reverse course by introducing a mutant retcon potentially (which has also been teased before) if they want Wanda to be tied to the X-Men reboot.

Of course, Scarlet Witch could still be involved with the MCU's mutant stories even if she is not one herself. Since Marvel Studios hasn't revealed their plans for the X-Men yet, it is unclear what role, if any, Wanda Maximoff will have. Elizabeth Olsen should at least have the opportunity to interact with various X-Men characters as her story continues, assuming Scarlet Witch isn't dead after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ends.
