It didn’t seem possible for a film is easily reaching those heights. The next entry will be expanding the scale of its events to incredible lengths. So much so, that it’s easily one of the most anticipated MCU movies ever.
It’s become a habit of Marvel to deliver details in bits and pieces for this film, which makes it relatively difficult to keep track of what exactly is going to happen and who is going to appear. That said, the following is everything that has been revealed as of yet.
It Will Feature The Spider-Verse
The MCU has usually changed the titles and names established in comics - such as calling the Spider-Sense the “Peter tingle” - so there’s a chance the Spider-Verse might be called something different. However, what’s for certain is that multiple Spider-Men will be seen.
For the time being, The Amazing Spider-Man’s Peter Parker guaranteeing a superb climax for the film.
Mary Jane From The Sam Raimi Trilogy Is Returning
There have been constant comparisons between the MJ of the MCU and Mary Jane from the original Spider-Man trilogy. Among the things that haven’t aged well from the Sam Raimi series is the rather ambiguous ending Mary Jane received.
This is about to change, as Mary Jane is set to appear in the MCU. Her role isn’t clear as of yet, but it’s confirmed that she will be there in some capacity. Considering the long span between her appearances, the third MCU Spider-Man film will establish what ultimately became of MJ.
The MCU Spider-Man Characters Are Back
Among all the returning characters from previous movies and alternate universes, it might seem as if the cast might be revamped entirely, along with the likes of Thor: Ragnarok. The good news is that this isn’t the case, with the core Spider-Man characters present here as well.
This includes MJ, Ned Leeds, Aunt May, and even Flash Thompson. So, while the movie will be diving into the concept of the Spider-Verse, it will remain grounded enough to allow for the existing characters to make their presence known.
Doctor Strange Will Be Peter's Mentor
The usual hype surrounding film has to do with the villains appearing, although the third MCU movie deserves focus in the role of another superhero. Doctor Strange and Spider-Man’s dynamic in Avengers: Infinity War wasn’t a one-off, as evidenced by his inclusion in this movie.
Each Spider-Man entry in the MCU has brought a mentor for the titular character, with Iron Man and Nick Fury taking on these roles the previous two occasions. This time around, the role will be filled with Doctor Strange, who will be the mentor-type figure for Spider-Man to turn to.
Previously Deceased Villains In Separate Universes Will Be Coming Back
The Spider-Verse is exciting to fans due to the chance of watching previous Spider-Men together. What’s even better for the third MCU movie is that it’s bringing back villains as well, from both prior live-action universes to boot.
The interesting point to note is that these are Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 and Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Fans will be aware that both characters perished in their respective movies, making it unclear but intriguing as to how they will be incorporated into the story. This has already led to speculation of other villains ing the fray.
Peter And MJ Are In A Relationship
It sounds difficult to believe that the movie will have time to dedicate to a romantic story but count on it to be included. As was seen at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter and MJ made their feelings for each other known and became a couple.
The third movie will be diving further into their relationship, this time exploring the dynamics of the romance and how they stand. Considering how they’ve progressed from virtually having nothing to do with one another in the first movie, to harboring unspoken attractions in the next, it will be worth checking out they fare as a couple.
Ned Will Be Sporting A Different Look
Ned’s role has so far been to play the loyal best friend to Peter, although he did have a personal arc in Spider-Man: Far From Home in the romance with Betty Brant. Interestingly, the actor has displayed a much slimmer physique for the third movie, confirming a more active role for Ned.
It’s not likely that Ned will be becoming the Green Goblin as he did in the comics, but the fact that Jacob Batalon lost more than 100 pounds is an incredible feat that will not be going ignored in the movie.
Electro Will Not Have The Amazing Spider-Man Appearance
Despite a lackluster presentation in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Electro still manages to rank well in villain polls. Much of the criticism had to do with his blue appearance, which made for a rather shoddy CGI work that didn’t capture the character all too well.
This won’t be a problem for the MCU film, where Electro will not be shown with the blue effects. Jamie Foxx let it be known that the villain will be showing up as a larger threat, something that will be easier to accept with better CGI effects in this movie.
It Will Not Be The Final MCU Spider-Man Film
All things considered, it won’t be farfetched to assume that the movie is gearing up for a grand finale to bring an incredible conclusion. However, that’s not the case since a fourth movie was being planned before the third part had even started pre-production.
This was during the time of the Disney-Sony standoff, which has since been resolved. It makes sense to continue the story due to Peter Parker’s youth, meaning he can deliver a lot more Spider-Man franchise performances over the years, in addition to roles in other MCU movies.
It Directly Connects To Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
The existence of the multiverse was first confirmed by the premise of the Doctor Strange sequel, with many possible storylines already speculated. Since the third Spider-Man movie will be looking into the existence of alternate universes, it’s easy to see why Doctor Strange will follow through.
With the superhero set to appear in this film, the ties to this story will be felt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This makes for a highly intriguing storytelling style, seeing as WandaVision will also directly connect with the Doctor Strange movie, thereby tying in Spider-Man to two other Phase Four entries.
