Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Marvel's Secret Invasion episode 2Marvel's Skrull known as Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir). Having been appointed the rank of Skrull General with Fury's chief ally Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) being exiled, Gravik is looking to push the United States and Russia to nuclear war while also empowering his own people to claim Earth for themselves.
Nick Fury and Talos are on the run in Secret Invasion episode 2 following a bombing in Moscow and the death of Maria Hill. This creates the perfect opportunity for Talos to come clean about what happened during the Blip when Fury was gone. This included a galaxy-wide call summoning even more of his fellow Skrulls to Earth as a refuge, something Fury would have never approved of. Having already had his suspicions, this reveal is preceded by Fury asking Talos about the destruction of Skrullos and what happened to their original homeworld.
How Skrullos Was Destroyed In The Kree-Skrull War
During a train ride, Talos confirms the Skrulls were overpowered by the Kree Empire on Skrullos. When they couldn't hold off the Kree warriors any longer, the million Skrulls that were left fled their homeworld, scattering across the galaxy as the Kree Empire destroyed their planet for good. Ever since, they've been hunted and killed as refugees, seeking a new home to replace the one that was lost, having been promised for years that Fury and Captain Marvel would help them find one.
This leads to the huge reveal that the vast majority of Skrulls who fled were summoned by Talos who called them during the Blip. Talos had kept this secret from Fury even after he returned (though he certainly knows now). While there are apparently some living in a colony with the newly referenced "Skrull Emperor Drogge", Talos confirms that close to a million Skrulls are currently on Earth. As such, there are way more Skrulls on Earth than was initially believed, even by Fury himself.
This is a very dangerous prospect considering Gravik's ability to incite his fellow Skrulls to claim Earth from humanity, no longer content to wait on unfulfilled promises. However, it's later revealed by one of the Skrull Council that the reason the Skrulls lost Skrullos was because they were too eager to go to war against the Kree. This is something she fears is happening once again on Earth under Gravik's leadership.
When Was Skrullos Destroyed In The MCU Timeline?
While the destruction of Skrullos does not have a confirmed exact date on the MCU timeline, it had to have happened before 1995, the year in which Captain Marvel takes place. At the beginning of the film, the Skrulls were already refugees and Talos' colony was living on the Kree border planet Torfa. At any rate, it certainly seems as though Talos and Fury are at an ime regarding Skrulls and humanity's ability to coexist. With no home to call their home after the destruction of Skrullos, it will be interesting to discover the Skrulls' ultimate fate as Secret Invasion continues.
