According to The Wrap, Chris Evans has ed the cast of Avengers: Doomsday in an undisclosed role. The report states that what character the actor will play and how much of a role he will have in Avengers: Doomsday's story is yet to be revealed. Evans' team did not respond when asked about the news. Avengers: Doomsday will reunite Evans with Robert Downey Jr., who plays Doctor Doom in the movie. The Wrap mentions that "Downey Jr. is returning to Marvel as a Tony Stark variant," so it remains to be seen if Doctor Doom will go that route.

What Chris Evans' Avengers: Doomsday Casting Means

The MCU's Two Biggest Stars Are Back

It is no secret that Marvel Studios has faced issues during the Multiverse Saga. A major part of the problem was that the MCU lost its two biggest characters, Captain America and Iron Man, in Avengers: Endgame. However, with Marvel now having overhauled its TV division and turned its movies toward major franchises and characters, the studio is on a better path. Adding to that, Evans returned for a scene-stealing role in Deadpool & Wolverine, with Downey becoming the new main villain of the Multiverse Saga as Doctor Doom. Things fell back into place for Marvel.

With Chris Evans ing Avengers: Doomsday, the studio continues its 2024 comeback. Evans' star power will surely help raise excitement for the next Avengers movie, and the actor could play a few different roles. The easy choice would be Captain America, which could be a multiverse variant or the MCU's original Steve Rogers, as Marvel Comics set a precedent for making an older Steve young again. Evans could also return as another version of the Human Torch. However, his most interesting role would be as a villain, perhaps Hydra's Steve Rogers, fitting the pattern of Downey's Doctor Doom casting.

Chris Evans As Johnny Storm Looking Unhappy In Deadpool & Wolverine

While we still don't know who Evans will play in Avengers: Doomsday, the mere fact that he is back in the franchise is a reason to celebrate. Evans was a huge part of the Avengers' success, and in Deadpool & Wolverine, the actor cemented that he can deliver fan-favorite performances as other characters that are not Captain America. I'm excited to see him opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the MCU again, with Avengers: Doomsday also reuniting Evans with Captain America franchise directors the Russo Brothers and scribe Stephen McFeely. Everything is set for Avengers: Doomsday to succeed with Chris Evans.

The MCU Actor Has A Mysterious Role

HYDRA Cap Marvel

With Chris Evans' Avengers: Doomsday role being undisclosed at this time, there is room for speculation about which character he could be playing in the anticipated MCU movie. Evans' Captain America was still alive when he was last seen in Avengers: Endgame. As such, the new movie for Earth's Mightiest Heroes could see the new Avengers call on Old Man Steve Rogers for guidance against Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. There is also a chance that Avengers: Doomsday will turn back time for Steve Rogers and make him young again, though Evans could also play a multiverse Captain America variant.

After delivering a fan-favorite performance as the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine, Evans could play Johnny Storm once again in Avengers: Doomsday. Though Evans' variant died in the 2024 MCU movie, the character was notably different from Evans' version of Johnny from the 2000s Fantastic Four movies, with Deadpool & Wolverine's R rating influencing that. As such, Avengers: Doomsday could reveal that Evans' original Johnny Storm is still alive, with Marvel potentially using the film's multiversal plot to bring him back alongside the rest of the 2000s Fantastic Four cast, something fans have been asking to see.

There is also a chance that Evans will appear in Avengers: Doomsday in a new MCU role.

With Robert Downey Jr. now playing a villain, Doctor Doom, Evans could also go that path. Ever since Avengers: Endgame teased Marvel Comics' evil Hydra Captain America storyline when Steve Rogers said "Hail Hydra," a crucial moment from the comic book event, fans have been hoping Evans would play that variant of the character. There is also a chance that Evans will appear in Avengers: Doomsday in a new MCU role. Like RDJ as Doom, Evans could play a major villain like Magneto or Norman Osborn, though heroes like Cyclops would also work for Avengers: Doomsday.
