Finding Element Zero rich planets in Mass Effect 2 is crucial to getting some of the most important upgrades the game has to offer. Players will need to scan and probe planets across the galaxy to gather all kinds of resources throughout their journey, and unfortunately Element Zero - or "eezo" - is significantly rarer than the other materials in the game.
Element Zero is needed to upgrade biotic and tech abilities in Mass Effect 2, as well as other equipment that can give players an edge over the Collectors. These upgrades don't exclusively apply to Shepard, and are also useful for any crewmates who happen to use these skills in combat. However, compared to the other materials available - Iridium, Palladium and Platinum - in Mass Effect 2 Element Zero is difficult to come across.
Mass Effect 2: Element Zero Planets
Because of this, much less eezo is needed to achieve every possible upgrade in the game, with players only needing to collect around 35,000 in total compared to the 200,000 or so needed of every other material in Mass Effect 2. Fortunately, this number can be easily achieved if players make good use of planets that are rich in Element Zero.

Why Find Element Zero In Mass Effect 2
There are several requirements players must complete in order for the entire Normandy crew to survive the suicide mission at the end of the game. Upgrading Mass Effect 2's Normandy is part of these requirements - crewmates can offer to provide shield, armor, and weapons upgrades for the ship if players prompt them about it. These upgrades can be expensive, so players will more than likely have to scan at least a few planets to get enough resources to afford them.

Other non-essential upgrades can also be given to Shepard or their crewmates, though, and players who want to become stronger in combat will likely find it worthwhile to gather as many materials, including as much of Mass Effect 2's Element Zero, as they can.
Scanning planets can also help players find side quests and other assignments they may have otherwise looked over. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has rebalanced the galactic readiness rating in order to compensate for the removal of Mass Effect 3's multiplayer game mode - and, as a result, choices that carry over from previous games in the franchise have more weight when it comes to achieving the best possible ending in the Extended Cut. Because of this, players should consider it in their best interest to collect as Element Zero in Mass Effect 2 as possible.
