Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the next entry in Insomniac Games' Spider-Verse, and it could be the catalyst for a number of expansions to the developer's exploration of Marvel Comics, perhaps even a sequel to Miles Morales. The game is set to feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as protagonists, with the crime-fighting duo on truly equal footing for the first time. With this entry in the franchise serving as the debut of Miles as a fully-fledged Spider-Man, it could very well be a springboard for his next adventures, perhaps in the form of his own standalone sequel.

Miles has been in Insomniac's universe from the beginning, acting as a ing character in Marvel's Spider-Man and gaining powers during its final act. Then, in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Peter entrusts Miles with protecting New York while he and Mary Jane take a work trip abroad. While Peter is gone, Miles' powers become arguably better than Peter's, but he has to contend with learning to control these new abilities while also facing his first major threat as a hero. By the end of the game, Miles solidifies his self-confidence and gains the of Harlem, and New York City as a whole, as his own Spider-Man.
While Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a strong first showing for the superhero, it was essentially a prologue to his crime-fighting career. Some fans were even disappointed in the game's length and size, calling it more of an expansion to Marvel's Spider-Man than a full standalone experience on par with its predecessor. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be the first game in the series in which Miles is truly Spider-Man from start to finish, and could set up a situation in which Miles has to take charge again, this time as an established and experienced hero.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Will Debut Miles As His Own Hero
With Marvel's Spider-Man 2 supposedly being darker than the first game, the foundation for Miles' next adventure could even be a more damaging development than expected. Miles' first act of heroism came in Marvel's Spider-Man, when Peter was incapacitated at an award ceremony for Miles' father. Echoing that turn of events, Peter could end up injured or worse in the sequel, or maybe just be otherwise occupied by the fallout of Kraven and Venom's introductions. With Peter out of the picture for more than a vacation, the scale of Miles' next game could be much broader, allowing for a deeper exploration of the character and his mythos.
It's currently unknown exactly how large of a role Miles will play in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, though promotional material has thus far given him as much spotlight as Peter. Some have even speculated that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could be a co-op game, letting players control both Spider-Men throughout the story. While that would be an impressive feature, and would provide players with more of a connection to Miles than if he was simply made a ing character again, it wouldn't carry the same heart and individuality that pervaded Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
As Insomniac continues to expand their Marvel game universe with titles like Marvel's Wolverine, they also still have plenty of opportunities to expand the Spiders' corner of that world. While there are plenty of other Spiders to discover should Insomniac choose, they already have a golden opportunity to expand in Miles Morales. Miles is in good hands, but he is also certainly deserving of more solo screen time, which Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is perfectly suited to precipitate.
