Marvel's Midnight Suns, a tactical RPG from XCOM developer Firaxis Games and publisher by 2K Games. Marvel's Midnight Suns promises to be an action-packed experience that immerses players in the life of a customizable superhero when it releases early next year.
Marvel's Midnight Suns is a loose adaptation of early '90s Marvel Comics series Midnight Sons, which follows some of the darker, magically inclined heroes in a fight against demonic forces. While the game borrows quite a bit from the comic series, including its basic premise, heroes and villains, it also adds a few new characters, some of whom didn't exist during the Midnight Sons run.
Not much has been revealed about the game's narrative itself, though. The Marvel's Midnight Suns reveal trailer shows characters working in tandem to raise a mysterious figure from her crypt. She turns out to be the daughter of Lilith - mother of all demons - who has also been raised from the dead and must be stopped by the Midnight Suns superhero group. Here's everything known about the game so far.
Marvel's Midnight Suns - Release Date
Marvel's Midnight Suns does not yet have an exact release date, but it is set for a March 2022 release window. It will arrive on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Marvel's Midnight Suns - Characters
Marvel's Midnight Suns' character roster is impressive, drawing from many recognizable heroes across the comics universes. Captain America, Ironman, Captain Marvel and Dr. Strange appear from the Avengers team, and other characters of note include the Runaways' Nico Minoru, X-Men's Wolverine and Magik, and the Midnight Sons' Ghost Rider and Blade. There will be 12 heroes at launch, so more announcements are likely on the way.
Most notable of all is The Hunter, a brand-new character players can customize to their liking, from their appearance to their powers. The only set facts about The Hunter are that they are a master demon hunter and the child of Lilith.
Marvel's Midnight Suns - Gameplay
A new Marvel's Midnight Suns gameplay walkthrough trailer, revealed via an exclusive Marvel's Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG, allowing players to customize their abilities and strategize as they deem fit. Players can choose up to two heroes to team up with on each mission, and every hero has a specific set of skills.
Another major part of the game is living alongside the Midnight Suns team. When speaking with NPCs, players will have multiple dialogue options, though it's currently unclear how this roleplaying element will affect the overall story. However, developing relationships with the heroes will unlock new abilities and upgrades.
Much of Marvel's Midnight Suns' customization options come from its card system, in which players select cards with specific abilities in order to create a unique gameplay strategy. When embarking on a mission, players will be dealt a random hand of cards for the heroes accompanying them, making it necessary to be able to strategize based on the luck of the draw.
Marvel's Midnight Suns - Setting
Marvel's Midnight Suns is set in several original areas, as well as a couple of recognizable locations for those familiar with the MCU. HYDRA dungeons, the Avengers' tower, and Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum were all teased in the gameplay trailer, as well as several nondescript locations around the city. Some desert-like scenery indicates travel outside of NYC is also likely, though all the locations revealed so far indicate the game's events will be earthbound.
The Midnight Suns' base of operations is the Abbey, a large, converted cathedral and home of The Hunter's hidden crypt. Players will be able to explore the Abbey as The Hunter and befriend, though not romance, fellow Marvel heroes there. The Abbey includes locations such as a kitchen, lounging area, and war room, though more will likely be revealed as Marvel's Midnight Suns gets closer to its release date.
Marvel's Midnight Suns is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime in March 2022.
