Since its launch back in 2020, developer Crystal Dynamics has continuously updated Marvel's Avengers and its roster of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Within its first year the game introduced Kate Bishop, Hawkeye and Black Panther as entirely new heroes along with new storylines and locations. While Kate Bishop and Clint Barton both share similar skillsets, and the title of Hawkeye, Marvel's Avengers made both heroes distinct by giving them different traversal mechanics, arrow types and skill trees. Still, the announcement of Jane Foster made fans worried that the heroine would be a simple reskin of the original Thor Odinson. While Marvel's Avengers outfits for Jane Foster Thor help her stand out from her male counterpart, their abilities may be too similar for many players.
Following Jane Foster's recent arrival, many Marvel's Avengers players are frustrated that her abilities and animations are almost identical to the original Thor. Reddit Themainman-- suggests that Jane possessing her own unique moves and animations should not be an unrealistic expectation, considering she is the game's first new hero in months. Spideyforpresident agrees, decrying how Jane Foster's Battle progression simply reuses takedown animations and emotes from the original Thor. Littlepirate02, meanwhile, criticizes Jane Foster's new Intrinsic ability that pushes players to alternate between melee and ranged attacks. The sentiments of these three Reddit s have been echoed by the Marvel's Avengers community at large.
With Jane Foster added to the game today, a new MODOK boss fight in Marvel's Avengers is set to be the game's next piece of new content. While the bizarre supervillain serves as the main antagonist of the title's single-player campaign, MODOK is never faced in the superhero simulator's multiplayer mode. Crystal Dynamics is set to rectify this absence by adding a new Warzone and Omega Level Threat that focus on fighting the villain and his ferocious forehead. The new Omega Level Threat will be the Cloning Labs, a highly-anticipated but repeatedly-delayed endgame raid.
Crystal Dynamics still seems committed to ing Marvel's Avengers, but the title's newest hero appears to be yet another disappointment. The mighty Jane Foster Thor is obviously similar to the original Thor in both powers and weaponry, but it seems that most of her skillset is identical to her male counterpart. As the game's first new hero in months, fans were expecting Jane Foster to be much more robust and unique.
