A supposed leak indicates that Kate Bishop and She-Hulk could be coming to Marvel's Avengers after the game launches. Marvel's Avengers is set to release next month, and is already confirmed to feature Hawkeye and Spider-Man as DLC characters. The latter will only be available on PlayStation consoles, much to the ire of many fans.
The action game has made news many times over the course of its lengthy development period, for better or for worse. After its infamous character models disappointed fans when it was first announced, Marvel's Avengers has been trundling steadily toward a release early next month. Along the way, it's given fans plenty of updates about how it will look when it's all finished. Developer Crystal Dynamics has been taking time to familiarize players with the game's starting roster, which includes all the Avengers standbys one would expect, as well as future heroes will not be exclusives like Spider-Man.
A recent leak pointed fans in the direction of two heroes who might be ing Marvel's Avengers after the game releases. These two heroes are She-Hulk and Kate Bishop, female counterparts to the Hulk and Hawkeye, respectively. As spotted by Games Radar, Reddit 6plus4equals52 posted what they claim is a character list found in the files of the game's recent beta preview. The list does clearly display both Kate Bishop and She-Hulk, along with all the base game heroes and Clint Barton - Hawkeye - listed by name rather than moniker, likely to avoid confusion between the male and female Hawkeyes. Spider-Man is not present, but his console exclusivity could explain the omission.
This is a very tenuous source that hasn't been confirmed by Crystal Dynamics or corroborated by any other sources. Still, if true, it would be exciting news for Avengers fans. Both characters have enjoyed popularity in the comics, and both are set to appear on Disney+ next year in TV shows based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While there are arguably more prominent characters that Crystal Dynamics could have used to fill out the roster, both She-Hulk and Kate Bishop are excellent picks in their own right.
Reactions to the recent preview of Marvel's Avengers have been somewhat mixed. Some fans argue that Crystal Dynamics is more concerned with setting up an in-game economy and ongoing service than it is with presenting a quality title, but as the recent success of Spider-Man for the PS4 showed, there's a big market for superhero games. If Crystal Dynamics can stick the landing with Marvel's Avengers, then this could be big news for Kate Bishop and She-Hulk, introducing the two characters to whole new groups of fans. If, of course, this leak is at all accurate.
Marvel's Avengers will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4th, 2020.
