WARNING! SPOILERS TO MARVEL ZOMBIES: RESURRECTION #1, OUT NOW!
Any X-Men fan knows the Marvel Zombies: Resurrection #1, the invasion and infection of Earth's superheroes brings many changes to this Marvel Universe including a Sentinel named Nana who is programmed to protect the living and destroy the undead.
In the story by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Leonard Kirk, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC's Travis Lanham- the appearance of Peter Parker who continued to honor his promise to Sue and Reed by looking after their children, Valeria and Franklin.
Wandering through the woods, the survivors discuss a member of their team named Nana whom Valeria and Franklin argue about when the former's shows her dislike by insulting it. Interrupted a group of zombies including the remains of X-Men's Nightcrawler, Nana is revealed to be a re-programmed Sentinel with the personality of a British nanny who's still got the killing touch. Nana leads the group to the seemingly-abandoned remains of the X-Men's Xavier Institute, where it's revealed that Nana does not its programming pre-invasion and that it was Peter Parker who re-purposed its personality and prerogatives for Franklin's ease and as another form of protection for him and his sister. Nana proves it is still a lethal killing machine when they discover a group of uninfected, held captive by faithful Deadheads as food for a Respawned (zombie) Beast when the former scientist attacks the group and kills Forge.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in X-Men #14, the three stories tall robotic "protectors" first created by Bolivar Trask were originally created to hunt and kill mutants, a symbol of justifying genocide in the name of racial hatred. Over the years, Franklin Richards and this Robo-Mary Poppins has no problem attacking and killing its new targets, especially respawned X-Men.
While Nana survived Beast's attack with minimal damage, a later attack from an infected Moonstone appears to have permanently incapacitated the Sentinel and the children. Hopefully, Nana will live on in some form as it'd be disappointing to have a new take on the old X-Men enemy come and go so quickly, and yet that's par for the course in the zombie apocalypse. In the world of Marvel Zombies, you should be careful of getting attached to any favorites because sooner or later, another one bites the dust or in this case, the junkyard.
