Warning: contains spoilers for Storm #2
The X-Men hero Storm is dying... and only the undisputed Master of Dark Magic can save her. While many readers may assume that the new Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Doom would be considered Marvel's Dark Magic connoisseur, Storm #2 confirms that the true Master is none other than Jericho Drumm, the hero known as Doctor Voodoo. But who is Doctor Voodoo, and how did he best both Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange as the Master of Dark Magic?
Jericho Drumm first debuted, using his former moniker of Brother Voodoo, in 1973's Strange Tales #169, where it was revealed that after his brother's death, Doctor Voodoo sought out Papa Jambo, a Haitian Houngan from his village, to learn the mystic arts and claim the Staff of Legba.
Houngan are male priests and leaders from the Vodou religion of Haiti, tasked with leading rituals, maintaining relationships between ancestral spirits and the community, as well as countless other important roles.
Storm #2, from writer Murewa Ayodele with art by Lucas Werneck and Alex Guimarães, sees Storm seeking medical treatment for radiation poisoning that is killing her, leading her into the magical care of Jericho Drumm. Doctor Voodoo is described as the "indisputable Master of Dark Magic," while the narration explicitly states that the Master is not in Latveria, directly undermining Doom's legacy and new role as Sorcerer Supreme.

Doctor Voodoo Is One Of Marvel's Most Powerful Sorcerer
Jericho has been an Avenger, the Sorcerer Supreme, and Heaster
Doctor Voodoo has a long and complex history as a powerful mystic in the Marvel Universe, with over 50 years of stories featuring Jericho and his impressive magical skills. While Drumm initially rejected his familial calling as a magic in his Haitian home village, instead choosing to travel to America to become a psychologist, his true destiny was eventually revealed to him. After his twin brother, Daniel Drumm, was killed by the villainous Damballah Jericho traveled home and studied under Papa Jambo, who used a mystical ritual to place Daniel's soul, or "loa," inside Jericho's body. Since then, Doctor Voodoo has lived in New Orleans and helped countless Marvel heroes in their battles against the mystical forces of evil, becoming one of the most iconic magic s in Marvel canon.
"The title of Houngan Supreme--Shaman Unmatched--Babaaláwo Extraordinaire--belongs to... Doctor Voodoo."
Years ago in New Avengers, the then Brother Voodoo was given the title of Sorcerer Supreme after Stephen Strange lost the role, and with his innate abilities and the Eye of Agamotto, Drumm was able to help Stephen defeat an invasion by the dread Dormammu. As Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Voodoo used "dark magic" to fight off the forces of evil, much to Doctor Strange's chagrin, and also ed the Avengers, during which time he started a romance with the Scarlet Witch. Drumm was killed fighting Agamotto, losing his title of Sorcerer Supreme, before a "heroic" Doctor Doom made a deal to resurrect Voodoo during the AXIS event. Storm #2 declares that Jericho Drumm is the Houngan Supreme, making it canon that in at least one mystical art from Voodoo is the Supreme, as well as a "Babaaláwo Extraordinaire," confirming he is also a high priest in the African Yoruba religion.

Doctor Doom Has Stolen Strange Academy From Doctor Voodoo
Will Jericho Drumm be forced to fight for his student's safety?
Doctor Voodoo's most recent heroic role saw Jericho Drumm become the Heaster of Strange Academy, helping to teach and guide Marvel's next generation of powerful magic s. Unfortunately, the students of Strange Academy were instrumental in Doom stopping the Blood Hunt and claiming the title of Sorcerer Supreme, leading to Strange Academy relocating to Latveria and becoming "Doom Academy." Drumm's legacy is now in jeopardy, and as a hero who has fought against and alongside Doom on multiple occasions, Voodoo may be forced to take on the new Sorcerer Supreme if he hopes to save his former students from corruption at the hands of Victor von Doom.
