Amaranth first appeared on the cover of Scarlet Witch (2023) #9 as part of the New Champions cover series, which was meant to celebrate the new character Spider-Boy by creating alternate universe sidekicks for some of Marvel's major heroes. The New Champions characters have slowly been debuting across Marvel's various titles, including Ultimate X-Men, Spider-Woman, and Robbie Reyes' Ghost Rider Special, before their eventual team-up in New Champions (2025) #1. Amaranth, Scarlet Witch's apprentice, makes her first full appearance in Scarlet Witch (2024) #6 as she begins her training with Wanda Maximoff.
Amaranth says Agatha was smart to be afraid, but Wanda claims that she is not, even if that makes her a fool.
Amaranth's explanation of how she ended up in Wanda Maximoff's Emporium is unsettling, to say the least. She was found with no memory at ten years old, by a man who raised her as her father. The man was a celebrated psychiatrist, but Amaranth caused him to go mad. Amaranth ran away and found Agatha Harkness, who saved her life, but feared her, so after a month, she pawned her off to Scarlet Witch. Amaranth says Agatha was smart to be afraid, but Wanda claims that she is not, even if that makes her a fool.

With Amaranth's traumatic past, plus any dark events she faces before ing the team, especially if Scarlet Witch fails to help her, Amaranth could become the New Champions' powerful first villain.
