Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals introduces a new type of reward system into the game called the Combat Chest, which features over 20 new cosmetics you can unlock. Almost acting like a mini-Battle , the Combat Chest contains multiple costumes, emotes, nameplates, sprays, and more. However, instead of spending Chrono Tokens to unlock items, you only need to play matches to start earning rewards.

Similar to other events in Marvel Rivals, the Combat Chest only lasts in-game for a limited time, giving players a short amount of time to earn everything. Although the cosmetics offered in the Chest will eventually become available in the Store, you have a small window to pay less for their rewards. With multiple versions of the Chest, you have some freedom to only get the items you want.

What Is The Combat Chest In Marvel Rivals?

Limited-Time Rewards Surrounding New Seasonal Update

The Combat Chest in Marvel Rivals is a collection of limited-time rewards containing 24 unique cosmetics tied to Ultron's arrival in Season 2.5. Starting on May 30, 2025, the Combat Chest goes live for players to start earning items from it before it expires. Thankfully, the rarest costume items that aren't collected from the Chest while they are active will be transferred to the in-game Store when they disappear.

There are two versions of the Combat Chest - a Free version and a edition that you can purchase. As of this time of writing, the cost of the Combat Chest is unclear, but it will likely be available for a small price, similar to the Pick-Up Bundle in Marvel Rivals at the end of Season 1. Those who get the edition are given one of the Chest's rewards right away and have the ability to unlock all its cosmetics over time.

The Free version of the Combat Chest offers a limited selection of rewards from the collection, but doesn't allow players to get everything. That being said, Free version players can still earn at least one new Legendary skin for free without having to spend money.

The Combat Chest's extra rewards are bought through Lattice in-game currency, which you can buy with real world money. You may not be able to spend blue Units to get the Combat Chest, but there is a chance that currency can be converted into the Lattice you need. Once you get the Combat Chest, you can progress through it to start earning the items it offers.

How To Unlock Items From The Combat Chest

Earn Levels To Progress To Different Tiers

Investigating the Combat Chest immediately gives you a Level for the rewards inside. Starting at Level 1, you can complete matches to earn experience and progress to new tiers of the Combat Chest, earning a new item for each level you reach. For example, by gaining 1,800 XP to get from Level 1 to Level 2, you unlock the Make it Rain Emma Frost Emote, which is available in the free and Combat Chests.

There are 10 rewards for those with the Free Combat Chest and 24 total cosmetics offered for players who purchase the version. Every time you return to Marvel Rivals matches, the matches you play directly contribute to your Combat Chest XP as long as the collection is active.

Keep in mind that you do have to complete the matches you play to earn XP towards the Combat Chest from them. Leaving or disconnecting from any mode's matches will result in potential experience being lost.

While you do earn Combat Chest XP from matches, you have a Daily Experience Cap that limits how many rewards you can get in one sitting. You have an XP cap of 7,200, which is restored back to 0 after a set amount of time after you hit that value. This means that the only way to unlock everything from the Combat Chest is to earn experience over multiple days of playing.

Earlier levels of the Combat Chest will be easy to progress through with lower XP costs. However, as you progress further into the Chest collection, it may take more and more XP to reach higher tiers, possibly costing your Experience Cap to only unlock a couple of items. This is more noticeable for Combat Chest holders, but as of the time of writing, it is unclear what each XP Level goal looks like.

The multitude of cosmetics in both versions of the Combat Chest are varied, from three different Legendary character costumes to special Emotes, Nameplates, Sprays, and more. Some skins in the Combat Chest even change colors or alter sound effects in Marvel Rivals, making them worth working for. The amount of rewards in the Combat Chest aptly compares it to a smaller Season 2 Battle in Marvel Rivals.

Some of the rewards in the Combat Chest are never-seen-before cosmetics, including the Emoji and Mood Bundles introduced in Season 2.5. Emojis are small images conveying a mood that players can use to communicate with one another without using lengthy chats or ambiguous emotes. Meanwhile, Mood Bundles are stamps you can add to your Nameplate, Friends, or Career Profile to customize them to your liking.

While it will take some time to earn each of the cosmetics in this collection, its existence encourages players to keep completing whatever matches they find the most interesting. Any mode can contribute to unlocking everything in the Combat Chest, so you'll have many opportunities to earn its rewards in Marvel Rivals.
