Marvel's the Hulk and Tryco Slatterus, aka the Champion of the Universe, but none of them were ready for the immense threat their rivalry created.

In Thor vs. Hulk: Champions of the Universe #6 - by Jeremy Whitley and Alti Firmansyah - Thor and the Hulk have teamed up to defeat the cosmic villain Tryco Slatterus. The Champion of the Universe has been convinced to hold a tournament to decide the strongest being in the universe, kidnapping them to participate. His assistant Xirena Awhina, aka the Promoter, is the real brains behind the operation, secretly using a series of 'challenges' to slowly accumulate a series of incredibly powerful weapons - among them the Tactigon.

The Tactigon Was Forged From Watcher Technology

Thor vs. Hulk: Champions Of The Universe #6 (2017) - Written by Jeremy Whitely, Drawn by Alti Firmansyah, Colored by Irma Kniivila, Lettered by Jimmy Betancourt

The Tactigon first came into existence after an alien civilization called the Prosilicans forged the weapon in defiance of the Watchers. Millenia prior, the Watchers had gifted the Prosilicans with advanced technology, which the alien species immediately abused. The resulting carnage obliterated most of the universe, with the Watchers walling off the surviving portion and vowing never to meddle in the lives of other species. Forged from the Watchers’ multiversal-level technology, the Tactigon can pinpoint any enemy’s weakness and shapeshift into a form that perfectly exploits it. Because the Tactigon was forged using cosmic power, it easily rivals most other weapons, including Thor's beloved hammer.

Even in the hands of an inexpert wielder, the Tactigon can be directed to manifest itself as any weapon, while subconsciously influencing them to make the best tactical choice. At the beginning of the Thor vs. Hulk: Champions Of The Universe miniseries, the Tactigon is in the hands of an alien king who used it to summon a black hole to subdue the Chitauri army. The cosmic weapon has also allowed its wielders to access knowledge and information as a means of overcoming their enemies. The Tactigon has spent some time on Earth, and was used by the broken clone KIA in Marvel's Avengers: The Initiative #8, from Dan Slott, Christos Gage and Stefano Caselli.

10 Powerful Marvel Comics Weapons Not Yet In The MCU

With the Infinity Gauntlet and Mjolnir, the MCU is packed with powerful weapons, but there are still many more yet to be featured, such as these.

Even Together, Thor, Hulk and the Champion Couldn't Beat the Tactigon

The Ancient Weapon Is Too Adaptive, Thanks to the Watchers' Godlike Tech

When the Promoter turns against her temporary allies, Thor and Hulk are no match for her. With every attack the Promoter throws their way, the weapon transforms to overcome any counterattack the heroes return. Even with his hammer, forged from the heart of a dying star, Thor fails to overcome the Tactigon. Instead, the Promoter unleashes a beam of raw energy that leaves Thor incapacitated with pain.

As the Promoter converts the Tactigon to amplify the powers of a Moonstone, Thor and the Champion are both overwhelmed by indescribable pain, halting them in their tracks. Despite the thousands of years of combat and war across the Ten Realms and beyond, not even the God of Thunder can endure the weapon. No matter what he does, Thor its that he has become completely immobilized and implores the Hulk to stop the Promoter where the god cannot. Thankfully, Hulk survives by making a connection with the Promoter and showing her she can seek her goals without killing them - but even then, it's not a matter of Hulk overpowering the weapon.

While other weapons like Thor's Mjolnir may be more famous, none have managed to overpower the three strongest beings in the Marvel Universe.

The Tactigon's Creator Is Its Only True Weakness

It's Impossibly Deadly, But That Doesn't Make It Indestructible

Despite its cosmically awesome strength, the Tactigon is not indestructible. Years after the clash between Thor, Hulk, and the Promoter, the Tactigon was found back on Earth alongside a collection of other dangerous weapons and artifacts. During the Reckoning War - when the Prosilicans waged war on Earth - Doctor Doom tracked down the cosmic weapon as leverage against the invaders. In Fantastic Four #44 (Dan Slott, Andrea Di Vito, Davide Tinto and Rachael Stott), Doom faces the Tactigon’s creator, Rapture, only to learn that she's more than capable of overcoming her creation.

ing the device she forged in childhood, Rapture is ready to face it, using a hidden weakness to cut it in half with her War Blades. Sadly, Doctor Doom decided to wield the Tactigon against the one person in existence who knows it better than anybody else and knew how to take it out of action. While the weapon was seemingly destroyed by Rapture, its shapeshifting nature means there's every chance it can be reassembled and fall into the wrong hands yet again.

While other weapons like Thor's Mjolnir may be more famous, none have managed to overpower the three strongest beings in the Marvel Universe, making the Tactigon a major entry in the Marvel history books.
