Side by side with... Magneto! For years, the Master of Magnetism was Iron Man’s greatest fear. But to take down Orchis, will Tony have to work with the X-Men’s former adversary? And will a fight against every Sentinel on Earth be too much for even these two powerhouses? |
Invincible Iron Man #18, from writer Gerry Duggan with art by Patrik Zircher, reveals that Iron Man and Magneto will need to take on "every Sentinel on Earth" side-by-side in the X-Men's final war against Orchis, even though Tony Stark has feared the magnetic mutant for years, shown in a gorgeous new cover from Kael Ngu.
Magneto Is Returning From The Dead To Partner With Iron Man
Magneto has been dead for months now, murdered by Uranos during the A.X.E.: Judgment Day event, and forcing Storm to vow to not resurrect the heroic man plagued by trauma. However, Ororo began having dreams about Magneto in the afterlife and, determined to save the man she calls friend and peer, Storm journeyed into Death to bring Magneto back. Now, Marvel officially confirms that Magneto will indeed be fully revived by the end of Resurrection of Magneto, and may become the deciding factor in the X-Men's final battle against Orchis.
Iron Man has been terrified of Magneto's power for years, for the obvious reason that he controls metal and Iron Man's suit has traditionally been made out of metallic alloys. Iron Man was narrowly able to defeat Magneto in AvX, but only because he created a carbon nanotube suit without any metal in it. Invincible Iron Man #14 begins with a recurring nightmare of Tony's where Magneto turns his suit into a deadly spear and murders him with it, with Iron Man revealing that unveiling his dream will make him look "like a fool" by the end of the story.
Iron Man And Magneto Will Be Key To Defeating Orchis
Now it is obvious that Tony's dream will make him look like a fool because instead of being killed by Magneto, he may be saved by the mutant, and forced to partner with him to finally take down the Stark Sentinels. Magneto is truly a force to be reckoned with, and if the X-Men are to beat Orchis, they need to destroy the Sentinel fleet, which is holding the planet hostage through intimidation. With Magneto's incredible powers and Iron Man's impressive new mysterium suit, this heroic team-up may be exactly what turns the tide for the X-Men.
Even though Iron Man has feared the power of Magneto for many years, he also surely respects the strong-willed and honorable man and will be able to see past his fear to successfully partner with the X-Men hero. If Tony Stark has any hope of defeating the leagues of Stark Sentinels come to kill him he will need to rely on the iconic Magneto, whose messianic return to the land of the living could save Iron Man, and may be the last resurrection of the mutant's Krakoan Age.
