Wolverine FINALLY Returns From The Dead

NOTE: This article contains SPOILERS for Marvel Legacy #1

Marvel fans knew you can't keep Logan down for long, and it's now confirmed that Wolverine will return to the Marvel Universe in LEGACY #1. He's only been missing from the comic book game for four years, but for those fond of the X-Men favorite, it has seemed like a lifetime. And now that the moment of his return has been officially revealed by Marvel Comics, there are going to be a LOT of questions surrounding his death - and his resurrection.

For those who may not , the last time Logan was seen in Marvel's continuity he was sacrificing himself to keep his supremely-valuable DNA out of villainous hands. But apparently even encasing the Wolverine in an adamantium coffin can't finish his story. We don't yet know what the true Wolverine will have to say about the events of Marvel's Civil War II, or Captain America's Secret Empire evil, but we know Logan will walk Marvel's Earth when the first issue of Legacy drops - and that's good enough for us.

Take a look at the first page revealed by Marvel (via ComicBook), leaving little doubt about Wolverine's return... the tease offered by Marvel's Editor-in-Chief is another story. First, the Legacy page fans will get Sept. 27th:

As badly as we all want to see the telltale "SNIKT" that inevitably follows this confrontation, comments offered by Marvel's Axel Alonso seem to carry far more weight. According to the EiC, Wolverine might just be clutching an Infinity Stone in his fist:

Yes, Logan is back from the dead. After three years of a Logan-free Marvel Universe, Logan is back, claws popped and ready for action. How he came back, why he came back, and just how he came into possession of that Infinity Stone are part of a fascinating story that's going to unveil soon, and in some unusual places.

We can't yet guess what "unusual places" fans should expect to see this mystery unravel (or in what "unusual" issues they'll need to purchase to find out), but the suggestion that Wolverine's resurrection would be tied to something of such cosmic importance makes sense. The conclusion of The Death of Wolverine succeeded in suffocating him for good, making this return to comic continuity a true resurrection - unless an Infinity Stone suggests a more cosmic, alternate-universe solution. (Marvel returned the true Captain America to end Secret Empire though Cosmic Cube magic, so it's not a stretch.)

Beyond the HOW of his return, it will be interesting to see how his Legacy arc affects the story of X-23, Marvel's new Wolverine. Not to mention Logan's son fighting with the new X-Men. As for the Old Man Logan currently filing the void left by Wolverine... well, we can't see him getting too sentimental about being replaced. All fans have are questions, and even if Wolverine's return to Marvel Comics was practically guaranteed from the moment he left, Marvel wants readers to have their curiosity piqued.
