Marvel spotlights the return of Nova in a new trailer for their next major event, Imperial. Nova has yet to make his MCU debut, and it has been years since he was featured prominently in Marvel's comics. Imperial #1 arrives as the first entry of a bigger event for Marvel, and promises a stunning return for Nova.

On YouTube, an official trailer has dropped for the four-issue Imperial event, and in it, Nova makes an appearance in an all-star cast. For those who have yet to read the first issue, now on sale, the trailer doesn't spoil anything. Still, it makes it clear that Nova will play a substantial role in an ongoing political conspiracy where political leaders are being accused of regicide.

In addition, here is an official synopsis from Marvel for the comic: "Jonathan Hickman, Iban Coello, and Federico Vicentini present the end of the beginning in IMPERIAL, the #MarvelComics event series that will reshape the Marvel cosmos."

Marvel’s Imperial Turns Into a Galactic Whodunnit, And Nova Is at the Heart of It

Richard Rider aka Nova flies through outer space in Imperial 1

Imperial centers around four political leaders within the Galactic Council (including one very close to Hulk), all of whom have had attempts on their lives made. With a mysterious assassin on the prowl, politicians start to point the finger at each other when it becomes unearthed that the perpetrator comes from the Council itself. The Hulk, She-Hulk, Brawn, Star-Lord, and most notably, Nova all play a hand in investigating who among them could be the killer, or if there's a bigger conspiracy afoot with multiple assailants.

Nova's role in the story is to help his long-time friend, Star-Lord, with the investigation. His connection with a fellow alumnus of the Guardians of the Galaxy is enough to intertwine Nova into this world. Not only will Nova's role in Imperial help elevate him back to prominence in the Marvel Universe, but it will also elevate his part in the larger cosmic lore of Marvel. Imperial is expected to expand the wider galactic universe that Marvel has to offer, and doing so with Nova further cements his status as a cosmic hero.

In the story, the stakes are high as characters continue to die, but even more so for Nova, whose future in the mainstream Marvel Universe may depend on how well he shines in this arc. Stories like Annihilation, Marvel's best crossover series, go a long way in illustrating how Nova might be Marvel's best cosmic hero. Still, without a live-action appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he's become an afterthought. Imperial could be exactly what Marvel needs to remind everyone of what makes Nova so great and renew interest in the galactic hero.
