The breakout villain from the Loki will take the character further, this time as the protagonist, and will place him at the center of things rather than in a ing role.
While he’s a fan favorite, Loki does have plenty of negative qualities that are striking when seen from a third-person perspective. His problems have arisen mainly due to Loki exhibiting these traits, sometimes without him even realizing it. Of course, he has positive attributes as well, which will definitely be seen in full during the Disney+ series.
Best: His Comedic Nature
Loki carries with him a mischievous nature that given rise to a fun response from his fans. While he’s a trickster, his joking nature is still an endearing quality since he can make any situation comedic through his knack for sarcasm and wit.
This makes Loki an entertaining villain, as he didn’t engage in the usual morbid talk that most antagonists do, instead taunting the protagonists to get under their skin. His comic nature also makes Loki’s scenes so heavy with replay quality.
Worst: Holding Grudges To Excessive Lengths
Loki doesn’t have the capacity to be the bigger man and simply move on, as he constantly has grudges against others that he never lets go of. It was due to this that he kept butting heads with Thor and Odin, despite them going to great lengths to rehabilitate Loki.
Loki held on to even the tiniest acts he felt were done against him, keeping them in mind to score his revenge later. This led to him later banishing Heimdall and Sif from Asgard several years after their dissension, along with being bitter towards Odin up until the moment of his death.
Best: Always Returning To Thor One Way Or Another
Fans of the character love to joke about how he’s better than Thor, but Loki did have the inclination to return to his brother even if he had a grudge against him. This was best shown in Thor: Ragnarok, where he visited Thor in Sakaar’s prison and wanted Thor to him to usurp the Grandmaster.
He also arrived in Asgard when he didn’t have to in order to aid Thor in his fight against Hela. Although Thor made many friendships and relationships, the one constant he had turned out to be Loki due to the latter turning up by his side one way or another.
Worst: Acting Out Whenever He Feels Wronged
Loki can be very much like a child, with a tendency to go low in his attempt to get back at those he’s sour against. In Thor: Ragnarok, he instantly turned on Thor after his brother claimed he didn’t need him in his life anymore. In Thor: The Dark World, he lashed at Frigga and said she wasn’t his mother purely out of anger.
Loki was well aware that these things would hurt the people he was up against and did so in order as a way of getting back at them when he felt they were doing wrong by him. However, his actions ended up being worse than what others did to him.
Best: His Ability To Read People
This is an attribute that true Loki fans are well aware of, as Loki is someone who can lay out everything about a person’s character upon meeting them. He had Black Widow’s personality read in an instant, along with understanding how Bruce Banner and Hulk’s dynamic worked.
Loki gained Thanos’ favor when he realized the warlord wanted something from Earth and played this to his benefit, while he found out Thor’s weakness to be Jane’s Foster and exploited that as well. That's not to mention being the first person in centuries who found out about Valkyrie’s past.
Worst: Blaming Everyone But Himself
Thor said it best after he tasered Loki that life is about growth and change while Loki seemed the same. Loki had the habit of thinking he was always right and everyone else was wrong, as he did all the bad acts he committed by arguing it was “his birthright.”
Rather than see things the way Thor and Odin did, Loki took to blaming them for everything, right down to his childhood. When he was brought to be sentenced for his crimes on Earth, Loki continued to pin the blame on humans, Thor, and his father rather than answer for his actions.
Best: Using His Brains And Brawn Where Needed
Apart from his useless attack on Thanos, Loki always had a great balance between using his fight skills and mental aptitude. While Thor was made the Grandmaster’s prisoner, Loki quickly gained his favor and became one of his generals, proving how much of a strategist he was.
Loki was by no means a slouch when it came to fighting, as he easily dispatched the Frost Giants, Hela’s army, Captain America, and others in combat. He might have also beaten Iron Man had Loki not had the plan of being captured all along to gain access to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s base.
Worst: Habit Of Backstabbing
There were so many times that Loki turned on someone that his betrayals can all be listed down. Loki didn’t just stab others in the back out of grudge, he did so because it favored him in numerous ways while disregarding the fact that he was betraying his own family at times.
This ended up working to his own disadvantage, as Thor eventually caught on to this fact and betrayed Loki the final time the latter tried to turn on him. Unfortunately for him, his death arrived when he literally tried to stab Thanos while betraying him.
Best: Holding His Mother In Great Esteem
Frigga is a series as she was the one person who loved him unconditionally. Loki’s own trait that wasn't sullied was the respect he showed for his mother, who remains the only character that he never betrayed.
Loki giving all his love to Frigga ultimately benefited her as well, as Frigga had a constant companion whom she shared her magical ancestry with. Loki also fought against the Dark Elves for Frigga’s sake, making the person he was under Frigga’s influence the best he could be.
Worst: His Extreme Insecurity
While Odin is largely considered among the worst parents in the MCU, that’s mainly because he was seen from Loki’s point of view. The problem was Loki’s extreme insecurity blinded him to the point where he put words in other people’s mouths and took things out of context.
Due to his insecurity of not being considered Thor’s equal, Loki figured he would get Thor banished just so he could take his place even though Thor had always loved him. Despite Odin assuring Loki he saw him as his son, Loki continued to think Odin didn’t like him. It was ultimately Loki’s insecurities that bogged him down, which prevented him from having the loving relationship he inherently wanted with his family.
