During its presentation on the final day of fixed Super Mario Party's online play in a sudden update.
The most recent Mario Party title, Super Mario Party, was dinged by players and critics for its shallow board options. Despite these complaints, Super Mario Party has become the seventh bestselling game on the Nintendo Switch, showing that fans of the series are still wanting more Mario Party content. Hearing that demand and opportunity to profit more off of the long-running party game spinoff series, Nintendo has doubled back with a new entry that promises to fix these issues.
Revealed during its E3 2021 Direct, Nintendo debuted Mario Party Superstars, which collects several boards and minigames from previous Mario Party titles. As the trailer mentions, Mario Party Superstars will include "five boards from the Nintendo 64 games" and "100 minigames from across the series." Having learned from previous backlash, Nintendo announced that "all game modes work with online play," meaning players will be able to relive their favorite boards and minigames with each other without having to rely on splitscreen play.
Mario Party Superstars' online play will also allow for players to jump into games with random players from around the world, as well as feature the ability to save games and resume them at any point. All of the featured minigames will button control, allowing for more flexible controls, which was another knock against some of the newer, motion controls-focused Mario Party titles. Mario Party Superstars releases on October 29, and is available for pre-order now.
As stated above, Nintendo fans were not pleased by the lack of Super Mario Party boards, and Nintendo has made note. With a collection of several old boards, such as Peach's Birthday Cake and Space Force, plus 100s of beloved minigames, Mario Party Superstars appears it will have the depth and versatility that fans have been asking for.
Nintendo's E3 2021 press conference was jam packed with reveals, ranging from new WarioWare and 2D Shin Megami Tensei V trailer. For viewers that aren't fans of the Mario Party series, there was likely still something for them to be enthusiastic about. As for Mario Party fans, Nintendo's E3 2021 reveal was surely a cause for excitement.
Super Mario Party will be available for Nintendo Switch on October 29.
