Connie, one of the main characters in Mario & Luigi: Brothership, is generally positive and proactive throughout the game, yet she often mentions her sadness regarding her missing mentor, Ms. Cozette. Cozette apparently vanished at the same time the original Uni-Tree was destroyed and the world of Concordia was broken apart. In flashbacks, players can see glimpses of this kind teacher who inspired and guided Connie in her life, and it leaves a bit of an ominous tone for what could have happened in this story-driven RPG where nobody really seems to die.

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Mario & Luigi: Brothership.

The story of Mario & Luigi: Brothership revolves around the disaster that occurred following the Uni-Tree's destruction in Concordia. This Uni-Tree was a giant tree that stood in the center of the land of Concordia and held this world together through a power known as Connectar. Connectar spread from the Uni-Tree to the Great Lighthouses and on to each individual area of the land, uniting them together and giving power to everyone. After the destruction, Cozette went missing and little Connie took it upon herself to try growing a new Uni-Tree and bring the world back together.

Who Is Connie's Mentor, Cozette

Previously The Wattanist Of The Uni-Tree

Prior to this cataclysmic event, Cozette was the Wattanist and caretaker of the Uni-Tree. She was teaching Connie in the ways of being a Wattanist to one day follow after her footsteps. It seems from the way Connie talks, and through flashbacks, as though she was essentially playing a mother role to Connie as she grew up. Cozette is portrayed as someone who was kind, gentle, and rather quiet and introspective. Above all else, she loved the land of Concordia and the Uni-Tree.

What Happened To Cozette?

Brain Washing Is A Dangerous Thing

In her role as caretaker and Wattanist for the Uni-Tree and the flow of Connectar, Cozette would travel to the Great Lighthouses to make sure things were running smoothly. During one of her visits to a Great Lighthouse, she came across a mysterious egg which spoke to her. The egg was that of Reclusa, an evil spirit who hates any connections and values only solitude. Trapped inside his egg, Reclusa managed to brainwash Cozette into helping him escape the egg-prison and re-enter the world.

Once brainwashed, Cozette took on an entirely new personality and role as the nefarious Zokket. Zokket is who players are led to believe the big boss to be throughout Mario & Luigi's journey in Concordia, but ultimately was only another pawn. Despite Cozette's love for Connie and the strong connection that exists between them, the control that Reclusa had over Cozette is shown in Zokket's deep hatred of Connie. Zokket even claims at one point that Connie's light will go out at Zokket's hands, even though Zokket has delegated every other fight to their Extension Corp minions.
