Nintendo has given fans another glimpse into the Mario Kart World, this time showing off what one of the overworld missions will look like. The newest entry into the Mario Kart franchise will arrive on June 5 as a launch title for Nintendo's console, the Nintendo Switch 2. In the ninth installment of the racing game, players will be able to leave the race tracks and freely explore the world surrounding them, adding a new layer to the classic series.
To incentivize players to explore the world, Mario Kart World has scattered missions for players to find and complete in between races. Nintendo has now shared what one of these missions will look like, as shared on X by Stealth40k.
The brief video shows Toadette hitting a P Switch to activate the mini-side-quest, giving players a sense of what to expect from missions in Mario Kart World. Fan reaction has been mixed, with some afraid the missions will be too easy, some happy with how fun they look, and everyone across the board praising the soundtrack.
Nintendo Shows Off New Mission In Mario Kart World
Missions Give Players A Reason To Explore
In the video, Toadette is shown making "a bold escape through the ice-cream ravine" in the game's version of the world surrounding the Sky-High Sundae racetrack. Driving over the power switch momentarily freezes time to show players their mission and where to go next. The racer is then released and must complete the challenge, which in this case consists of driving through a series of rings within a specified time limit.
"I think that not only those who are not familiar with Mario Kart but also advanced players who are into time attacks will be satisfied."
This mission requires players to master wall-riding and gliding, two new mechanics being introduced into the franchise for the first time. In an interview with Nintendo, gameplay planning lead Shintaro Jikumaru said that the missions are meant to appeal to both casual and more hardcore fans, stating: "I think that not only those who are not familiar with Mario Kart but also advanced players who are into time attacks will be satisfied."
Mario Kart World Mission Receives Mixed Reaction From Fans
But Everyone Agrees The Music Is Great
Responses to this reveal are mixed. Some fans praise the mission as a fun way to encourage players to use the new abilities and explore the world. They're also happy with the seamless start of the mission, which smoothly launches players in the direction of the challenge. Others remain unimpressed, expressing their hope that there will be more difficult and lengthier missions to complete. Fans across the board seem concerned about the incentive for completing these missions, which isn't revealed in the brief new video.

Mario Kart World: All Items & Power-Ups Confirmed
Mario Kart World features several returning items from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but a few new & exclusive items are sure to kick the chaos up a notch.
However, one thing that all the responses seemed to agree on was the music. Although it's a bit difficult to hear under Toadette's exclamations, the clip features a remix of the Sherbet Land theme from Mario Kart Double Dash. Although fans might be of two minds regarding the new missions, hearing the Double Dash remix "puts a big smile on my face," says X Gabezcube.
Nintendo still has a ways to go before some core Mario Kart fans feel justified in spending $80 on the new game, in addition to the Switch 2 console price. It looks like some fans are starting to be won over to Mario Kart World, even if it's just through the fun, quick missions and nostalgic soundtrack.
