Nintendo has announced a free update coming to Mario Golf DLC will also introduce New Donk City, first seen in 2017's Super Mario Odyssey, as a playable course.

Mario Golf: Super Rush received mixed reception when it released in June, with critics and fans left unimpressed with its lack of replayability and content. The game is the first Mario Golf created for Nintendo Switch, and emulates real golf using the Joy-Cons' motion controls. As well as providing a story campaign, Mario Golf: Super Rush offers various game modes for multiple players with local and online , but most have failed to wow fans due to their simplicity and repetitiveness. While some of the game's offerings have been a hit with players, others have been left disappointed with specific Mario Golf's features.

The newly-announced update for Mario Golf: Super Rush is set to introduce never-before-seen content to the game later today, August 5. As confirmed by Nintendo, the update will introduce the new Ranked Match mode, which offers the ability to unlock different colors for Yoshi. Toadette will also be making an appearance as a new character in the game, and Super Mario Odyssey's New Donk City will be available as a new course. Finally, the update will also improve motion controls for a better gameplay experience. Nintendo has announced that further updates will be coming to Mario Golf: Super Rush later this year.

The addition of new content should be welcome news for those initially unimpressed with the game. The free update is a fairly substantial one, with the Ranked Match mode and New Donk City course adding new reasons to delve back into the action. Nintendo's confirmation that this is one of multiple updates is also significant, as it could mean that highly-requested Mario Golf additions could be coming to the game in the future.

While Nintendo hasn't revealed what any  updates may include, it's likely fans can expect to see more Mushroom Kingdom characters added in time, as well as extra courses from across the franchise. The Mario series is an extensive one, and when it comes to potential course options Nintendo has no shortage of inspiration. New Donk City was teased as DLC for the game earlier this year, though Nintendo hasn't given any clues as to what's coming next. Whether or not new updates will introduce further game modes remains to be seen, but with continued from Nintendo Mario Golf: Super Rush could become a showstopping Mario game.
