It's always interesting to see a manga or manhwa creator's favorite character from within their own series. For a lot of creators, it can be hard to choose one, as they've quite literally created every character that exists within their series. Some of the choices are obvious, like when a creator chooses their series' main character.

Other choices are a lot less obvious, making fans wonder how they came to fall in love with a particular character in the first place. A creator's favorite character says a lot about the creator. There is always one characteristic that stands out from who they've chosen, showing that the creator themselves can be similar to some of the most intriguing characters from their series. No matter who the creator chooses, it can be fun to see if the mastermind behind a beloved series likes a character for the same reasons its fans do.

7 Yoshihiro Togashi - Chrollo Lucilfer

Hunter x Hunter

Yoshihiro Togashi has somehow created two of the best anime series of all time. He's the brains behind both Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter, with each series receiving a litany of awards and becoming mainstays of the genre. Hunter x Hunter is an amazing series that follows Gon Freecss as he leaves his small hometown to explore the world, become a Hunter, and hopefully find his father, Ging.

Yoshihiro Togashi hasn't named one character from Hunter x Hunter as his overall favorite, but when asked who his favorite Phantom Troupe member was, he said Chrollo Lucilfer. Togashi said that he wasn't a fan of people who nominate themselves for anything, and that's exactly why he likes Chrollo. Chrollo is a powerful, enigmatic character who was nominated by his friends to become their leader. He's also one of the strongest characters in the series, adding even more to the character's mystery.

6 Yūki Tabata - Charmy Pappitson

Black Clover

Yūki Tabata's Black Clover has quickly become one of the new, biggest names in the shōnen genre. Due to Tabata's health problems, the series hasn't been able to enjoy the highs it used to, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a solid series as a whole. Black Clover centers on Asta, a magic-less peasant that values magic and status more than anything else. Asta doesn't care, however, using his determination to take him to heights magic never could have.

He said that he based Charmy off of his wife and that he finds it amusing to draw her in his manga. His wife must love feeding others, as Charmy can't help but create magnificent feasts for her companions. 5 Chugong - Kang Taeshik

Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling has exploded in popularity with the release of the anime adaptation. What was once a popular Webtoon has become one of the best new anime series in a long time. Solo Leveling stars Sung Jinwoo, one of the coolest characters in anime and the only character in his series who can actually get stronger. While creator Chugong says that he obviously loves his main character, there's another character he also loves.

Outside of Sung Jinwoo, Chugong's favorite character is, surprisingly, Kang Taeshik. This is a fairly shocking pick because Kang Taeshik doesn't really play a major role in Solo Leveling. He's only featured in a few chapters in the Webtoon and a few episodes in the anime, and he's a vicious villain in both art forms. Chugong has said that Taeshik is one of his favorites because he's easy to draw and a straightforward character overall.

2 Eiichiro Oda - Gaimon

One Piece

One Piece is hard to put into words. Not only is it one of the best series of all time, but it's managed to keep up with its own success for over 1,000 episodes. While some anime series have seasons so bad they almost ruin everything, One Piece hasn't had a legitimate lull ever. It's an impressive feat that no other anime series has gotten even remotely close to matching.

In an interview alongside the creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama, One Piece's creator Eiichiro Oda said that his favorite character from One Piece was none other than Gaimon. Gaimon is a pirate who was trapped in a treasure chest for 20 years, and to be honest, he plays a very small role in the series. It's an interesting pick for Oda who says that he loves Gaimon because he loves the idea of a pirate being trapped in a chest for 20 years.

1 Akira Toriyama - Piccolo

Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball is a series known by anime fans and non-anime fans alike. It's a behemoth of anime that has set the standard for nearly all of the series that have followed it. Dragon Ball focuses on the adventures of Goku and his friends as they defend the Earth from some of the strongest enemies in the universe, somehow growing stronger after every battle.

"I believe mine would be Piccolo. He was the first character in my manga where I was like, 'He has a scary face, but he's so cool!'" - Akira Toriyama when asked who his favorite character from Dragon Ball was.

There are plenty of great characters in Dragon Ball, and out of them all, creator Akira Toriyama likes Piccolo the most. In the same interview alongside One Piece's creator Eiichiro Oda, Toriyama said he knew Piccolo's character change wasn't entirely original. "It really is cliché when bad guys turn into good guys, but it just feels great drawing it!", Toriyama said.
