New footage for Star Wars timeline, the planet of Mandalore has almost always been in turmoil and conflict due to the warrior culture of its people. Although the world currently is said to be in ruins thanks to the Empire, it's been teased that the Mandalorian will be making a pilgrimage along with his adopted child, seeking to right past wrongs.
In Mandalorian season 2, Din Djarin had no choice but to remove his helmet to save the child Grogu. As such, he knowingly violated the sacred Way of his clan by showing his face to others. Upon his confession to his clan's Armorer that he broke the creed as seen in The Book of Boba Fett, Djarin was excommunicated and became an apostate. While he may wield Star Wars' black-bladed Darksaber, which symbolizes his right to rule, Djarin no longer has a clan. However, he was told of a path that would lead toward his redemption by the Armorer herself.
As revealed by the Armorer in footage description for The Mandalorian season 3 teaser features Djarin's decision to go to Mandalore to be "forgiven for his transgressions."
Although Mandalore chose to be neutral during The Clone Wars, not every Mandalorian agreed with the pacifist policies of Duchess Satine Kryze. This led to the return of Mandalore's more traditional warrior ways with the dawn of the Empire, though they were soon seen as a threat by the Imperials. The Mandalorians suffered a near-genocide known as the "Night of A Thousand Tears" with the Empire ravaging the planet and scattering the tribes that still stood. With Mandalore suffering so much devastation in recent history, there's no telling what Din Djarin will find when he gets to the homeworld. It's also likely that the Mandalorian has never been to the homeworld before, being a foundling who was adopted into a clan as a child.
Although Djarin's clan, The Children of the Watch, existed as a group of extremists beyond the typical Mandalorian culture of the era, it seems as though his primary mission will be to repent all the same when the new season releases in February of 2023. However, his possession of the Darksaber will undoubtedly complicate matters, seeing as how the new Celebration footage also teases a conflict with B0-Katan Kryze, Mandalore's former regent before the Empire's purge. As a result, a return to Mandalore was always inevitable for Din Djarin for more reasons than one, so it's exciting to see that the season of The Mandalorian will have the homeworld front and center.
