Why does Din Djarin think that the planet Mandalore is cursed in three new Mandalorians: Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), Axe Woves (Simon Kassianides), and Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks).
At one point in "The Heiress", Din tells Bo-Katan and the others that he believes that the Mandalorians' home planet, Mandalore, is cursed: “That planet is cursed. Anyone who goes there dies. Once the Empire knew they couldn't control it, they made sure no one else could either.” On hearing this, Bo-Katan asks Mando to not believe everything he hears, as divisive tactics are already a powerful weapon in the hands of the enemy, and that Mandalorians are stronger together. In order to understand why Mando perceives his home planet through this lens, it is important to take into the root of his worldviews, which ultimately stem from the Children of the Watch, the faction he is a part of.
When planet of Mandalore after the Great Purge, which was also preceded by a long history of war and conflict.
Mandalore’s capital city, Sundari, is situated in the deserts of Mandalore, and it is important to note that centuries of prolonged conflict reduced the once-beautiful landscape to a harsh, endless desert. The city of Sundari is enclosed in a bio-dome, which are massive, insulated cubes, built for the rehabilitation of the New Mandalorians for survival amid inhospitable conditions. This ecological devastation, coupled with the visceral history of bloodshed, could lead to the Children of the Watch perceiving the city as cursed. As Din's faction is quite rigid when it comes to following the ancient ways of Mandalore, and their belief systems are tinted with religious undertones, it is also possible that they believed that the curse was a result of the Mandalorians straying from their old ways.
As the Great Purge led to the Mandalorians losing dominion over their own home planet, it will be interesting to see Bo-Katan leading other Mandalorians in a siege to help reclaim their homeworld, if she is to return to The Mandalorian. With the aim to install a new Mandalore on the throne, the ways of the race are guaranteed to be remolded, which could potentially be a transformative arc for Din Djarin, who is now exposed to the multifaceted nature of The Way, and the need to re-evaluate his view of the galaxy and question his deeply-ingrained conditioning.
