The Spider-Man-themed numerous classic heroes and villains, including Captain America, Black Panther, Storm, and Wolverine.
After the release of a Secret Lair preview set, Magic: The Gathering is giving fans a first look at some of the cards appearing in the first of these Marvel sets, which are focused on the world of Spider-Man.
As part of the New York Toy Fair, Wizards of the Coast revealed a first look at the product packaging for the Marvel Spider-Man set. Like most other sets, the new set has two types of booster packs - a standard Play Booster and a Collector's Booster featuring variant rare cards. The set will also include several "Welcome Decks" designed to appeal to beginning players. Several preview cards from the set were also shown, featuring variant art by Dan Dos Santos that connect to form a single scene.
What We Know About The Marvel Spider-Man Magic: The Gathering Set
Cards Appear To Have Abilities That Sync Up With Comics Lore
The six cards revealed for the set show both Spider-Man and several classic villains. Each of the new cards appears to be themed for Commander decks, as each hero card is a Legendary creature that requires two types of mana to play. Each Spider-Man card also has appropriately thematic rules. For instance, Spider-Man can stun opponents whenever he attacks. These stun tokens remain on targets until Spider-Man chooses to remove them in exchange for drawing cards. The stun tokens are meant to represent webbing.

D&D and Magic: The Gathering Are Teasing Their Next Big Crossover Project
D&D and Magic: The Gathering appear to be crossing over with an unexpected plane as the next focus and a potential new mix of fantasy to explore.
Meanwhile, Doc Ock transforms artifacts into 8/8 Robot Villains and pulls out artifacts from opponents' decks using his Grasping Tentacles ability. Green Goblin, meanwhile, can boost the strength of goblins in play whenever the player discards a card. Venom has Vigilance and Menace and can figuratively eat creatures from any graveyard to increase his strength.
Our Take: Cards Look Great, Can't Wait To See More
Strange That The Set Is Askewing Comic Book Aesthetics, But More Is Likely On The Way
It's interesting that Magic: The Gathering is going with a painted approach for the connected scene cards in the new Spider-Man set. The cards look fantastic, but they don't exactly scream "comic book art" outside of appealing to Alex Ross fans. I'm more interested in seeing what other sorts of treatments the new Spider-Man set gets. This looks like a great start, though, and lives up to the high quality we've come to expect from Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond treatments.
